WinMX / ZoneAlarm Pro freezes my machine! HELP PLEASEEEEEE!

Hi everyone. Just joined the forum and it's great from what I've seen so far...

Think I have ZoneAlarm Pro configured properly. I set expert rules at the WinMX level to allow access to ports 6257 and 6699 for the proper TCP / UDP send and receive access. Also added a rule in the firewall section that allows my machine to use 6257 to send.

I start WinMX as a primary, add some server shares, do my searches, etc. and everything seems to be working fine - then after some time online the WHOLE DAMNED THING FREEZES UP AND I HAVE TO REBOOT! (Sorry for the caps but I'm soooooo frustrated.)

Oh, also I added a user account and I only run WinMX and Morpheus from there. Running Windows XP Pro, 1 gig memory, Norton and AdAware also running in the background.

Any help / ideas will be GREATLY appreciated - yah, I know ... get rid of ZoneAlarm, right?

Thanks,
krrafferty@mn.rr.com

Uninstall ZoneAlarm, Use a registry repair tool, then go and get sygate's firewall here...http://www.simtel.net/product.download. ... p?id=53687

ZoneAlarm and WinMX have a long history of bad issues with one another, so ur gonna have to eliminate ZoneAlarm to get WinMX working.

I agree, get rid of that POS and get a different firewall. Sygate personal firewall works great as a firewall and it is very effective and works well with WinMX.

Agree to disagree.....

But I say get rid of Zone Alarm, will not be beneficial for WinMX....
It will never work the way you want it to

I had problems doing both kinds of connections with ZA so I now recommend Sygate over anything....

I would recommend sygate as well, but if you insist on za, i saw this posted at vladds by Lost Soul: cant remember if i had posted this or not, but i have figured out the problem. seems ZA pro when on a primary will ask you if you wan too allow qinmx too send and recieve e-mail. sounds strange, i know it did too me, but at first i denied it. then after thinking about it, i went into my ZA control center, and allowed em. problem has completely cleared up for me. thanx again u guys are great Ill bet this would fix the problem :)
