Hi Everyone, I hope someone has an answer for me [-o<
I have a Compaq Presario, with XP on it. It has jammed on the very first screen, which is the Compaq screen. I have f1 and f10 options, that are not responding, esc does nothing, and ctrl-alt-delete basically does nothing. I had this prob about a month ago, and discovered I had the backweb program running. backweb comes preinstalled on HP puta's. So i deleted that, and all appeared well. But its happened again. Have no load? or start up? disk, guess I should have made one of those?.....
So, please, if anyone has any ideas for me, i would be truly grateful. I did see a post at some other place about d/ling a load or start up disk, but im nervous about trusting a site none of you recommended. Please help me.

Hmm, this is a strange one :?
Tried starting in Safe Mode? And do you have XP Home, or XP Pro?

yer that does sound kinda weird, safe mode sounds like a good place to start and @least then you can correct any errors resonably easy, if safe mode dont work then your task could become slightly harder :?

hmmm, no safe mode....

Thanx Guys. I dont think I can start in safe mode, as its the very first screen it's stopped on. I am pretty new to puta's, so perhaps i am missing something, or maybe there is something I still dont know. But what I am sure of, is that the only screen I get is the black Compaq (in red letters) screen. I dont have any options, other than the unresponsive f1 and f10. No safe mode option, as far as I can tell. In the last couple of hours Ive been advised to use the XP boot cd. not a floppy, and not the start up disc, but the boot cd. So now Im on the hunt for that. Anybody know if its downloadable? If so, a good place to d/l it? Thanx for your help.

oops

My last pc was a Compaq Presario, I had a simular problem; It wouldnt go past the red/black screen.

Took it to my computer fix it man who said it was shot (that it was trying to crash around my ears)...it had a few other problems though. So I had him put the storage from it into this one.

The fact that I paid around 1500$ Canadian for it and it only lasted me two years made me incredibly mad; on the upside...up until about two months ago, I was STILL using the keyboard from it

Hopefully, you still have the Compaq restoration disk. You should be able to use that to restore your windows config, if not I think you will need to start fresh. That means formatting the ole C: drive.

As I,m sure most of you know microsoft prefer the O/S software to be pre-installed on the Hard disk. This sounded like the situation above.
I often advise ppl to get a copy of Xp and use the key from their system (which is supplied on a sticker or a peice of card from the computer supplier ), and use it like that. I see no benefits to the customer of pre-installed software. Maybe the suppliers like to get paid to install free service packs and upgrades which you can only get from them?
