The Grand Final of the 4th Electronic Sports World Cup will be held from Wednesday 28th June to Sunday 2nd July 2006 in Paris. 800 champions from all around the world will challenge each other in different disciplines with more than 400,000 dollars prize money to share among the winners.

All of them will have won their place by taking part in their national qualifying competitions, organized in more than 50 countries. All the Finals will be staged in The Palais Omnisports of Paris Bercy, one of the main indoor sporting Arena of the Europe, with more than 40,000 spectators expected.

After the three days of intense competition and pleasure, the 4th edition of the Electronic Sports World Cup has finished. Each tournament has somehow brought the expected and the unexpected but eventually we have new champions!

Counter-Strike

This tournament was quite difficult and brought many surprises. No team has ended the tournament without a draw or a loss. Most groups of second group stages ended quite close and round differences were used to determine rankings.

Quake 4

As one of the first big Quake 4 event, this tournament was ensured to bring some surprises and so it did. Among the major unexpectedness, the Belarussian player Cypher is probably the revelation of the tournament. He defeated most favorite players in the tournament until he met Winz in a very tight and magnificiant final.

Warcraft 3

Many had foreseen Grubby and Tod in the final but it eventually did not end as expected. Fire and Zeus are probably the two surprises of the tournament as nobody expected them to perform so far, especially Zeus who reached the final.

Trackmania Nations ESWC

As its first appareance in such competition, it was very difficult to predict any result in this tournament. With millions online players, everybody had the same chances and anyone could have pretended for the title.

After the French domination of last year with 4 players in the top, it was easy to expect French players to perform well and it is exactly what happened. While this tournament was not as surprising as the others, players still deserve their champion title.

This tournament was in the right circumstance with the FIFA World Cup running at the same time. In the end, while last year’s champions didn’t perform as expected, we still find the usual strong PES nations in the top 8.

The Counter-Strike Women tournament occurred a little bit like the mixed tournament. The level of competition was quite close and no team ended the tournament without a defeat or a draw. Eventually, the french team BTB managed to defeat all their opponents
