Today on the IE blog the availability of two new beta tests - Windows Vista Beta 1 and Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 - was announced. These tests are mainly targeted to developers and IT professionals. Thus the betas are only available to MSDN subscribers. Tom's Hardware has details as well." From the article: "While the code also includes an early look at the new user-interface design, the majority of end-user features in Windows Vista will not be included until Beta 2. In addition to these fundamentals, Windows Vista Beta 1 also includes the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 built into the platform. The technical Beta of Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP SP2 also is available today." Any early thoughts, MSDN subscribers?

From the screenshots I've seen of Vista (these screenshots aren't new, they are from the days of 'Codename: Longhorn') the interface looks heaps better than XP. It appears the default is blackish theme, that may have just been the users settings, who knows.

I'm interested in IE7, apparantly there is a new system that will block all downloads that you don't accept from
'untrusted sites'. So, I suppose this is their workaround for Spyware and Adware installing itself. They seemed pretty confident that this would be extremely effective in reducing all of the nasties..

OH yea.I hope their new security option for fighting scumware works & the the creators of crapware don't find a vulnerability in it & exploit it to install their crap on PC's.

Vista finished this morning, it is a huge file, 2.5GB ISO  IE7 finished really quick but it won't install on 2003 server, so I will have to dual boot XP to check it out but it should be a part of Vista so who knows.

IE7 review with screenshots:

My friend is testing it right now and so far he likes it. Basically, IE7 isn't an upgraded IE6 but a whole new browser that is taking steps in the right direction and may draw people back to IE.

The tabbing looks really strange:

What is that third blank one for I wonder?

But I agree with you Grinch, it definately looks like they are going in the right direction.

If you click on the third one it will open up a new tab, instead of in Firefox where you have to go through the menu to open up a new tab.

I'm hoping to be comforable enough with *nix by the time I get my next computer that vista won't be an option. At the rate I'm picking up on it though, you may hear me saying "Viva Vista" when the time comes. :(
