Well, pretty high res pictures of the whole world, anyway. Recently I did a search for a mechanic shop in my area on google, and it was nice enough to show me a little map and pinpoint the location of each result. Then I noticed there's a satelite link. ooh, pretty. :) click me and then click the satelite link. Then scroll southwest about a quarter of the map size and zoom in on the smallest of those three islands.

Then, as I was browsing http://www.b3ta.com I saw a ref to http://earth.google.com and thought, heh, that's funny. Google is so big they need an "earth" subdomain. Then I went there.

Do yourself a favor (if you have a fairly new computer and broadband) and go there. Install Google Earth. Let me know if you enjoy playing with it as much as I do.

Funnily enough I was told about this a week ago. We searched various addresses we knew (including our own past and present) in various countries and it found precisely none of them. :|

Edit: At the time of writing, Google are not offering Google Earth for download. It seems they're over subscribed. Try again soon, they suggest.

I must have gotten in just before they filled up. I compared some images from their webpage to the program, and they have better images in the program.

Just checked, it still offers me the download. Maybe they don't allow it internationally yet? I wouldn't think that the US would be the only place that they'd offer the beta to, but that could be the case. When I get to work, I'll put the file up somewhere.

Some American friends of ours found their old homes. Perhaps they only have all the maps ready for the US??

Little brother was able to find his car at home, and also at school. It's kind of a yellow blur, 3X5 pixels, maybe.

In some places you can zoom pretty far. The little lady's parents in MN you can't even tell there are roads and housed in the area. The heavier the population, it seems, the more detail.

So you could zoom right down to a corner like the cops get for kinds of pictures? :?
