The LimeWire application has come a long was since its' introduction way back in November of 2000. Once tossed aside with other various applications, LimeWire has emerged as one of the leading Gnutella programs. Although many hardcore P2P users generally do not participate on this network, LimeWire remains a respected client due to its lack of third party software and its' open source nature.

LimeWire easy to use interface and simplicity has helped this client gain mainstream attention. The end result of this adoption has allowed the network grow substantially in just one year. According to Slyck network statistics, Gnutella population grew from 253,367 simultaneous users in May of 2004, to over 1.5 million users in May of 2005.

Reflecting this growing usage, the LimeWire client has breached Lycos
