I spotted this announcement on my travels around the net :)

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=22676
The world, already knows that AMD has its Opteron dual-core CPUs ready and that it's set to launch them tomorrow. But not many know that AMD is launching dual-core desktop CPUs as well
The Name of the new CPU is the Athlon 64X2 ,and as the article suggests will contain two athlon processors in one package.
The chip will also fit into existing motherboards that support the Athlon with only a minor flash upgrade to the systems bios, sounds good to me :D

Details of pricing for AMD dual-core Opterons seems to have been leaked. Seemingly, the low-end Opteron 865 chip will cost $1,514 USD, dual-core Opteron 870 $2,149, and the Opteron 875 will be priced at $2,649. Not due for release until Thursday, dual-core solutions from AMD are hotly awaited. The prices quoted should, however, only be regarded as a guideline, since OEMs will decide on final pricing for their AMD systems. AMD is expected to announce several industry partnerships on Thursday, where system builders will use the chips in their new machines.
