Canadian cable company Shaw , are alleged to be using a "limiting" system to slow down bit torrent speeds as excessive bandwidth was being used by this program.

The alleged system being used consists of this and may spread to other ISP providers

Notice the "rate limiting" feature

Hmmm.... seems that Ellacoya intended (at least on the surface of things) to make switches that could prioritize high-bandwidth users such as gamers. It's sad that so many technologies can be used for diametrically opposed purposes.

Thats the story of many good ideas :(
Here is a list of some throttled ports that a lot of the ISP,s use
The list includes, but is not neccessarily limited to, the following common ports
Direct Connect 411 - 413
Kazaa 1214
eDonkey 4662
Gnutella 6346 - 6347
WinMX 6699 - 6527
BitTorrent 6881 - 6889
May be a good idea to change the defaults to a random setting.
