Here is Km ,s chat Server that was mentioned by him a little while back :)

http://www.mxtools.net/?section=downloa ... mcs0.2.zip
Well, I have now released what you have all been waiting for! (no, not a winning lottery ticket)... the MXTools Chat Server :-)

Main features:
It has coloured text (with even more colours than before)
It has a nice easy admin system
It has text Replace
It has erm, something else
And it also has the ability for the channel to show up on the channel list

Unfortunately there is one down side to this, anyone using rabbit will not be able to see the extra colours, an update to rabbit with the added colours should be out tommorrow :-) (there are also several other things in the chat server that the new rabbit will support, such as the right click menu's will be controlled by the server so it can change the menu's when you are admined etc)
Well Done Km 8)

MXtools Chat Server
Main Features:
+ Supports all known chat clients
+ Supports COLOURED TEXT for winmx 3.53 users
+ Easy command set
+ Channel can be either Listed on the Channel List or Hidden for private rooms
+ Lower Upload Bandwidth than standard winmx hosted chat rooms (around 4-5k/s)

Type /help in the channel for a list of commands

The Server comes with an example Config file, edit this to your channels details before you open the server (you can type /reload in to the server, or from an admined client to reload the config later).

The Chat server also has the ability to load a config file from a web server, simply place a line at the top of the config file containing:
ConfigURL=http://www.somewebsite.com/whatever/config.ini
The Chat server will then connect to the web server and load the config file from there instead, if it fails to get the config file then it will continue with the rest of the config.ini file instead. For Security reasons its recomended that you use a server side script (such as php or ASP) to restrict access to this file as it will of course contain all your passwords, you should also not tell too many people the URL :-)

The Config file has 2 sections:

[STARTUP]

This section contains any commands that you wish to be entered in to the server on startup (to save re-typing them)

/clearpasswords
/addpassword password1
/addpassword password2
/addpassword password3
.......

This part sets the Admin passwords, you can have as many admin passwords as you want :-)

/setmotd Welcome to the room!
/topic Welcome to (room name here )
/setwelcome /opmsg $HOSTNAME$
/setchannelname ! ( Your room name here)
/setlog TheLogs
This part sets the other stuff, like MOTD, Topic, Welcome Message, and Channel Name

You can use /setchannelname2 to set a second channel name so that the server appears on the channel list twice if you want.

You can actually put ANY command you want in here and it will be executed as if it was entered directly in to the server.

[CONFIG]

This sets the other configuration options for the channel.

Users=0
This sets the number of users to show on the channel list, leave at to 0 to show the correct user count. To prevent abuse of this feature, 200 is the highest it can be set to

TextFormat=#c2#<$NAME$#c2#> #c1#$TEXT$
This allows you to change the way text is displayed to 3.53 users

TextFormatAdmin=#c36#<#c2#$NAME$#c36#> #c1#$TEXT$
Same as above, but for text typed by admins

Text Formatting can cause problems for some bots, to get past this simply type "/bot" in to the bot :-)

Replace=microsoft=Microshaft©®

This Replaces the word "microsoft" with "Microshaft©®" - These can be lots of fun if you take the time to set them up :-)
Slightly edited by Quicksilver , original can be found here

http://www.mxtools.net/?section=help&page=server

Whos going to test it out first ? :) oh , One important note the server is using fixed port 6698 to prevent multiple room opening.
until I can come up with a better way to stop that being done :-)
Very Sensible Idea 8)

What i do miss in this whole explanation is how to start it, do you put it in the original winmx folder or a seperate one, and how do i make the room effective? It only explains how to set commands and how to make a configfile, but how does it fit in as host, where to start????

Heres an updated version released today of the MxTools chat server :D The name decided on is now MCS ,this is version 0.2.1.

http://www.mxtools.net/?section=downloa ... s0.2.1.zip

MCMS 0.2.1 has been released

It basically fixes a couple of bugs such as not showing on primary users lists and a small bug with the initial reload the server does on startup.

I also decided to add a reduced version of Lettuce to it (I love copy/paste... :-)
Glad that bugs fixed ,well done for fixing it so fast KM :D

PS: This message is in the confi.ini file , nice to see you looking out for old friends :)

I always like to give working example configs, and i did a TSC example in the last one so i decided it was vladds turn again... it gets boring if i use the same examples too often :-)

Just a little note from KM about the MCS program being blocked by the new WinMx beta 1 of 3.54
The beta version doesn't effect MCS in any way (because its a completely seperate program) but MCS rooms on the current MCS wont show on the channel list for the beta users.
When are we gonna see the new MCS then ?

i dont remember that word being bold on my post... :-P

If you must know, i have started on a new MCS which will do most things in a completely different way to the current one (and its also going to be in C instead of C++ so i dont get tempted to cheat with doing things again) but erm... i am having a little trouble with a pretty important bit, the bit that handles the connections, once i get that figured out it should only take a coupld of days to get most of the chat server bits in place. Its the first time i've ever tried having a single thread handle multiple connections so i'm bound to find a few more problems as well :-)

In response .

Your quite right KM , I made it bold to make sense of the fact that there are 2 versions (the released one and the one you are working on ) .

Are you using the Winsock dll to do your connections with ?

For those that want to get a flavour of the sort of thing KM is working on read this :?

This ones more helpful :)

winsock makes the connections themselves pretty simple (i think thats why everyone uses it in windows :-)) the hard part is getting the program to try and deal with them all at the same time... thats where most of the bugs in the current MCS's come from, the fact that it uses a thread to handle each connection (a thread runs like a seperate program but inside one program allowing it to do more than one thing)

most of the bugs where with more than one thread trying to access something at the same time and causing problems, so i'm re-writing it to use one thread for all x connections (x means an unknown number), and after doing a lot of research in how i'm meant to do it, i gave up and decided on a much simpler (although wrong) way of doing it... and it'll probably mean more (but importantly... different!) bugs :-)

as i mentioned before i'm also doing in C this time (which C++ was suposedly based on) for 2 reasons, 1. it means i am restricted in what i can do so should end up only being able to do things the bug free way, and 2. it makes it easier to port to *nix if anyone decides thats needed :-)

btw, i didn't plan on making any official announcement about the next MCS until its in a semi-working condition so you didn't read anything about it from here :-)

The big day has arrived and we have a new release of MCS that has been modified to give a WinMx listing again with WinMx beta 3.54.
This is MCS version 0.2.2

http://www.kingmacro.net/mx/mcs0.2.2.zip

This is the source code for it

http://www.kingmacro.net/mx/mcs0.2.2s.zip

And this is the help page for MCS

http://www.kingmacro.net/?section=mx&page=mcs

Thank you KM for the new release and source 8) (No doubt WinMx 3.54 beta 2 will feature another fix :D )
