What are your thoughts on BitTorrent? Tell us what you like, what you don't. Be sure to tell us what client you are using too
I like it because there are no queues. I've used ABC and the Basic client, and found them both to be effective
ABC has many more features however and is a lot easier to seed with
What I don't like is the speed
But that's coming from someone on 56k
Out of 10 I give it 7

I was hesitant to use BT at first but ever since doing so I like it more and more. I guess that is obvious since I now host a tracker. I like the instant gratification of my download starting immediately when I click on the file instead of waiting in a queue for days. Speed is pretty good. I have had some download go over 100k but usually I sit between 15 and 20k. The thing I don't like is the fly by night trackers that are there one day and gone the next. I also hat the rar file makers. Those people piss me off. But i am extremely happy with BT and I use it more then WinMX.
I like it quite a bit for reasons already posted by others (no queues, fast speed) I still mainly download music, so sometimes the choices are limited but I can still normally find something that I want. I like being able to download "greatest hits" or box sets in a little over an hour. A couple times I downloaded 300+meg files in an hour or so, hard to beat that.
I use Azureus, I like it a lot, seems to work fine, plus it gives me the option of picking which files included in the torrent to d/l or not, unless the file is in Rar format. So far I haven't downloaded a bad file (knock on wood) and thats a lot more than I can say for some file sharing applications.
i use the standard BT cllient, 3.3 and thats ok for me, i have this ABC DL but not installed yet!
BT is amazing for big files and speeds, after days and days of my comp bein on i am DL right now @ 30k which is kinda cool considerin how much my comp is spacking, and since i cained it with them 14.2 gig DL's which i stopped BTW
but on the other hand BT has sooooooo many dodgy files, especially suprnova, i have waited hours sometimes days for games around 1gig or more, came 2 extract or burn it and the file type is unknown by myself and the comp i went 2 many game related rooms on WPN and nobody heard of these files, i DL i game and the file type for that was NFO i think, which is a text file??????? a game that is a text file??
NFO is a text file. To read it you need Damn NFO viewer which is free at the website. Do a google search for it. You said you downloaded LOTR game and it didn't work but it worked for me. Odd. I have had the same prob with games on WinMX as well. Some people have no clue to what they are doing when they make their files available for sharing. It pisses me off to no end.
well maybe the file you have got is different 2 the 1 i had originally, i will know as soon as its finished and ill let you know, i have all the progs needed so there should be no prob,
The torrent was 3 cd's all in rar format. So what I did s extract them into the bin and cue files and made those into the torrent. So the file I am seeding is the same but in a different format. It was the only one on Suprnova that I found.
well the 1 i had was'nt 3 cd's as far as i can remember and it definately was'nt rar formatt, it claimed to be iso and when i DL it and open it they were .nfo i googled it and found what they was and still could'nt open, i tried changin and renaming the formatt 2 ISO, BIN, CUE and nothing would work heck ppl in the games rooms on WPN did'nt even know,
1 suggested alcohol 120% and if that did'nt work then i was screwed and guess what.... it did'nt work
Hmm well I,m glad your all getting all the goodies you need but I,ve been watching the forums as do most of you and every now and then I hear ppl moaning about nasty letters from their isp because they where pulling so much bandwidth , yes we all want the speed but not at the cost of losing our connections to the net. Also I noticed most of the ppl replying to this have mega fast machines , or am I wrong ? .
If an ISP is complaining to people about pulling to much bandwidth. I Say to them forget it, because my ISP has told me how much bandwidth i can get for the money i am paying. I pay for it and by god i am going to use it. As for the machine speed, yes I too believe that most in this perticular thread have fast machines. I have a fast machine because i want it to do what i need, and i want my speeds to be fast that is why i pay for fast internet service. If SBC doesnt like it i will go to someone else.....
