Laptop problem

My laptop is 20 months old but very often used, an average of 6 hours a day is normal for me.
Since today the lcd screen is flickering and it gets darker, especially on the left side.
It has always been working good, anybody an idea what to do except for buying a new laptop.
I think getting it to repair will be more expensive then to buy a new one

Yeah, I have not been leaving it on overnight like I used to lately incase the same thing was to happen.
I think you can plug a monitor into the back, you can with this one, but I am not sure about yours. Have a look

I know that lol just then i cannot use it on the couch anymore and i like to be lazy when i chat. Besides its kinds difficult in the train as well to drag a monitor with you

You can replace your LCD on your own. However, taking apart a laptop is not as simple as a desktop and can be a pain in the ass. So don't try it if you are unsure of yourself. I tried searching on google for a replacement LCD but didn't come up with anything right away. I would e-mail Asus-Tek and ask them what they would recommend since I am sure your Notebook is out of warranty. You may be able to replace it will a different model LCD with no problems.
It is also possible that the backlight LED is going bad and you can just replace that.
But I would contact the manufacturer first anyway just to be sure.

The symptoms you describe are indicative of a low value capacitor in the lcd circuits power section , the give away is the words
the lcd screen is flickering and it gets darker, especially on the left side
What happens is over time the capacitors go low in value and you get ripple on the voltage rail and that shows up as flickering and also as the charge on the capacitor is now not as much as it should be the voltage varies with a each line scan of the laptop causing a portion of the screen to get darker when the voltage falls lower as the charge runs out too soon .
How does this help ? Well I dont suppose this does unless you have a friend who is competent to remove surface mounted component s, but at least you have an idea of whats happening to your poor laptop .

Well today he is a bir better, i sent him to bed with a grogg and some socks on and for now it seems to work. But thx for real for the explanation.
