I need a second opinion on some computer stuff, Quicks has already diagnosed the likley problem (thanks again Quicks) but I just want to get a second opinion before I beat up the numpty that built me a crap PC! (£300 of hard earned bongo money down the drain). The problem is my PC just beeps twice (about 10 secconds gap in between) and does nothing else. Quicks recons it's either the ram or motherboard gone, the numty says its my fault for over filling my hardrive. Any thoughts or suggestions (including methods of touture for said numpty) would be greatly appriciated. My msn is insaine_dexposition@hotmail.com

You cannot overfill your harddrive. Hard drives have a predetermined space that you cannot go over. The "numpty" must be an idiot. I agree with Quick in suggesting that you have a RAM or mobo problem. I believe you can look online at POST(those beeps) codes for specific BIOS's to see what they mean.

Thanks Grinch, the guy is still standing by what he says and says I can go over that amount of space and that perhaps my paging file is too small (his problem, he set the bloody thing up!) I'm gonna take it back round and give a pice of my mind (not sure which piece, I need to find a piece in good working order). I'll post my progress with him here, hopefully my PC will be back in business someday.

Since I have no idea what BIOS your computer is running here is some probs it could be:

AMI BIOS:
Parity Circuit Failure

Award BIOS:
RAM Problems

IBM BIOS:
Screen should tell you what problem you are having

Phoenix BIOS:
None of there codes describe your problem

If you have 2 sticks of RAM in your PC you can try taking one out and rebooting. If you only have one stick, I would move it to another slot. While the case is open I would make sure all of your IDE and power cables are properly connected and that your RAM and Heat Sink are fully seated. Other then those ideas I have nothing else to offer.

I'm on AMI BIOS, I'll try moving the RAM, I only have 1 installed, fingers crossed, cheers.
