Yes, Red , thats one of the signs of a flooder. Usually anywhere from 10-100 of the artist with a few tracks multiplied by several copies.

The most damaging part is what a search of these does to the Network... its important to stop your seraches of these artists before it starts putting stress on the network... thousands of searches coming in per second is damaging....

I discovered a few flooders recently. I hadn't seen anything like it before. It's been a while since I've tried to d/l anything on MX, but I went looking for a few oldies the other day. One was "My Ding-A-Ling" by Chuck Berry. Got over 2700 returns on my search before I finally stopped it from continuing and realized that was an awful lot of returns for a 33 year old song. Almost all sources were broadband, with an unusual number of T1 & T3, and most sources were available (green). I sorted by user and found many duplicates for each user. Any file I'd try to d/l would stay at the "waiting for network reply" status; none would start. Needless to say I was unable to d/l that song.

The same thing happened with "I'll be good to you" by Brothers Johnson. Except I was able to finally d/l it. After sorting by users, I tried a few that only had one available file per user. One of them downloaded. Maybe that's a trick we should try.

Edit: I just tried the Chuck Berry song again. I ran a search and stopped it after a couple hundred returns showed up. Then I sorted by user and scrolled down to the bottom to the red queued ones and picked one with "2 in Queue." I was in queue for a few minutes and it downloaded. Sometimes it pays to pick the queued ones.

Cheers.

Yes. ProgRocker thats absolutly correct!! :D

We have been advising ppl to do that for a while.. the trick is like you said.... STOP the search at a reasonable number so not to cause damage to the Network

Got to give credit where credit is due.. think Battye was the first one to mention this..
