Nintendo Co. will put on sale its new game console, "Wii," on Dec. 2 for 25,000 yen, company officials said Thursday.
The company set the price of its new console at less than half the retail price of PlayStation 3 -- which its rival, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., is scheduled to place on the market on Nov. 11 for 62,790 yen -- in a bid to gain control over the market.
Unlike the latest game consoles that feature high-tech games, Wii will allow customers to wave wireless remote-control handsets like rackets to enjoy the physical effects of various games.
Nintendo aims to ship 6 million units by the end of the current fiscal year that ends in March next year, according to officials. (Mainichi)
