How do you burn non-DVD format files through nero, so that they play on a DVD player.

You will most likely have to convert them to DVD format or if your DVD player will play VCD's, convert them to VCD.

If you're just doing pictures and videos, using Nero, go to Pictures/Videos, and then click Video CD. You don't get to create a fancy menu or anything though.

Nero needs an mpeg plugin. Once you've got that you can let Nero convert avi to mpeg all on its own. That'll let you make VCD, SVCD and DVD formats... assuming you also have the necessary hardware.
