I haven't used WinMx since the first of May and I was wondering if someone could give me an update of what's been going on since then. I haven't really been keeping up-to-date with the p2p world. Is there anything important I need to know before I start using WinMx again? Last I heard, the riaa/mpaa hadn't sued any WinMx users yet (except in the UK), has that changed?

As far as I know, not a great deal. The only big thing is that the US Supreme Court has ruled against p2p programs in general and against Grokster and Streamcast in particular. This hots things up a little. Finally the MPAA/RIAA have the legal teeth they've been wanting. The court ruled that, basically, developers of p2p software are encouraging piracy and are responsible for it. Time to throw away your VCR, looks like the ol' Betamax case didn't help here.

Also 11 major release groups including Centropy were raided recently. Bad news for those of us trying to get movies before they are released. Very bad but it won't stop me :D
