I was checking for a new version of dBpowerAmp Music Converter an on their site it said there was a new version.
They've made some changes & fixed bugs.
Significant changes: Auxiliary Input and File Selector included as standard. Higher quality mp3 decoder, Lame 3.96.1 encoder. Wave IEEE 32 bit support, dbpoweramp can supply column information in Windows Explorer (much more refined than Windows standard audio columns) , Unicode tagging transfers, Power Pack trial included as standard and mp3 encoder License on power pack trial. Smart install Codecs and New DSP effects (Graphic Equalizer, dithering down bit depth).

New Mp3 input decoder - mp3 MAD
dMC can add entries to Windows Explorer Columns
CD Input - copy track names to clipboard no longer requires powerpack
M3u & pls playlist popup info - now displays total length for playlist even if is > 50 entries
Added 'Tagging Options' on dMC Configuration - for updated codecs
Added unicode tagging transfer abilities (for updated codecs), for R11 characters can only be entered as compatible with current user codepage.
Popup info will display unicode of tags correctly (for updated codecs)
Open file dialog, file types drop list is alphabetic sorted
Configuration Page - sorts the codecs alphabetically on the config page
Power Pack included in default install
Bad News: Mp3 encoder is now on a License & trial with Power Pack,
Good News: Aux Input and File Selector now standard
mp3 Encoder is new Lame 3.96.1
Default install switches Power Pack options 'skip finish' and Rip to Ram on
CD Input - if autodial is on then first try to talk to freedb - if cannot then autodials
CD Input - on file arrangement form - if a fixed text is entered - ie 'bob-knob' then complain it should be '[artist]...'
Freedb Smart formatting - if have 'Feat. Bob' was changed to 'FeaT. Bob'
Codecs (such as WMA, Ogg, Monkeys, FLAC) are always present in dMC, selecting offers to install said codec
Scripting: if user cancel then added to log file (getwaserror will return true)
Scripting: WMA Settings removed (can no longer access them for WMA v9), Wave settings now work again, Mp3 blade setting removed
Configuration page changed slightly (show if dAP is installed)
If select a high priority then warnings are given about slowing CD ripping, or making windows unresponsive
file selector: 'keep path when convert' checked state is remembered
file selector: remembers files excluded
file selector: added uncheck button to remove all selections
file selector: added date modified column
file selector: warns in dMC if 'keep path' option and 'original folder' in dmc are used together
DSP - All DSP effects are 24 + 32 bit compatible, plus many have speed improvements
DSP - Add silence - option to add at beginning of track
DSP - added new to 24 bit, 16 bit dither, 8 bit dither
DSP added Graphic Equalizer dsp - say in help need is best to lower other bars than increase otherwise will clip, or for best - run to 24 bit dSP, volume quieten (say 10%), graphic EQ, then to 16 bit (dither)
DSP - Volume Quieten - say in help that should now use volume normlize to reduce a loudness (based on normalize)
DSP - new looper dsp (loop xTimes or loop to a certain length)
DSP - channel move revamped - can downsample or upsample number of channels (with various channel combining options) and move any channel to any other
DSP - adaptive normalize big speed increases
Wave - support for IEEE 32 bit float decoding

Bug Fixes

DSP - remove silence could mixup channels (ie left channel to right)
DSP - adaptive volume normalize - fixed freeze if had large silence in file
Sorted out CD Eject (should no longer suck drive draw back in after eject)
Can display version numbers for Input DLLs
Put catch exception trapping on tag tranfers
mp3 (lame) added specific error about trying to change the frequency if compression codec could not be opened.
mp3 (lame) writes lame header for CBR files (and xing vbr header)
mp3 lame: vbr header was not being written to certain presets
mp3 XIng VBR Header, searched more in file
mp3 XIng VBR Header length calculation now takes off header
mp3 parser, huge speed increases
Open file dialog was adding .SHUTDOWN (from dAP), causes windows not to display files
Memory leak when compressing the Wave ACM
Crash when file could not be opened (later in converter)
TCPConnection Socket (freedb) upgraded to fix connection issues
Rip as one - whole CD to Wave - it was getting the PC way wrong!!
Scripting: retrieving the error log list would only return 1st line
When converting huge number, the 2nd line says 'calculating size' but the top line is some funny characters
Aux Input (or CD Input) could still have the 'Delete Source File(s)' option checked (obviously it cannot do this)
All programs - buttons could disappear if a sub dialog was opened
The new version Mp3 Encoder is a 30 day trial version only and after the 30 days you have to register and pay $14 USD to encode to mp3's. :x
So much for it being 100% freeware
If you use v10.1 or v10 the mp3 encoder is still free in those versions.
Good thing i kept the set up file for v10,I can still rip cd's to mp3's or convert mp3's for free using it.
Is it still worth using the older version after all those bug fixes in the new version? If not i'll just have to reinstall cdex.

Well I don't use the cdex program however, this is of interest to me, maybe there is a way to get a cracked version out there somewhere?

Our anonymous poster left out the link to get dBpowerAmp. The CD writing program is only a 30 day trialware, but the audio player and converter are true freeware. I use the converter quite a bit. The site also offers free codec plugins for most file formats.

Cheers.

I think if you look carefully Rat you can see its two seperate posters, and the point of not logging in was lost .
It was a test in response to the original poster being able to make a guest post .
A change in forum procedure ?

No problem rat.It is still freeware ,but the mp3 encoder is a 30 day trial that's why i was so:x.I just rip to mp3's,I haven't tried the other free codec plugins, they're still free to use with DBPowerAmp converter.
I'll just keep using the older version that i have.

Oh quick i was logged in when I wrote my post, but when I submitted it was like i wasn't log in ,some how i became a guess.

Nope. I know who they both were and they could (and perhaps should) both have logged in. As you can see from recent comments, the guest access to this area was only an oversight. I think this has also been discussed in the updates section.

Humm I really hate to address this here but.. might as well.
Why would I log in??.. if I was testing whether or not a guest can post, it seems to me useless to log in to do so.. if you'll look at the dates and times of my 'test' post (the only one of its kind from me i might add) it was b4 Battye explained what was going on.
I am fully aware of the thread discussing Guests posting and looked at it prior to my test. I didn't see any mention of it being a mistake of some sort and I have my reasons for agreeing with the decision not to allow guests to post.

Your reply leads me to believe you have underestimated my intelligence, do you think if i knew why it was possible, i would have posted?

Anyway back on topic great posting p2p keep up the great work contributing to the forum...

The action of successfully testing this possibility underlines the problem. It becomes obvious to all that there is a security hole. The very fact that the first post came from a 'guest' is enough proof that it was possible. Further testing wasn't needed.

Not my intention me. I'm questioning nobody's intelligence. Sorry if you thought I was being rude. I stand by one point though.... You don't seem to have been around much lately. Is everything ok?

No security hole, guest posting is perfectly secure, it just isn't suitable in my opinion for this particular forum.

Back on topic now, thanks for the info P2P :)

Ugh, semantics. :) If security is something designed to keep out 'unsuitable' items, then leaving a door open is a security hole.
