Burning CDs

I don't burn too many CDs, but when I do I use Roxio. One thing that bugs me is that when the CD is burned, I lose all the information for each song, like 1. (artist) - (song title) just becomes Track 1.

Is there a CD burning program out there that keeps the mp3 file information? Thanks for any help, sorry if my explanation sounds odd..

I use Roxio too and it does place the tags on the disk , so check the options you got for adding cd text to the disk , I do know some cd drives do not support that function though

Or maybe the songs need tags themselves?

It depends how you do it. If you burn the files as mp3 data, most burning software copies the whole file, including the ID3 tags. If you convert to cda (CD Audio format) you'll lose the tags every time.

I hate to disagree Rat , but if I burn a cd from mp3,s into a normal audio cd I can have a track listing that is placed on the disk and will show up in any text displaying cd player, such as a car cd player or a home hifi with display, as I mentioned up a bit some burners do not support this function, I,m just lucky

I think the drive list on that site is out of date as my last 2 drives did it fine , also this site has a tool for extracting info from an original disk for you to play with as people like sony have been doing the tagging for you on all their releases.

This is something my friends at school have asked me all the time, then i tell them to get Musicmatch and the problems solved, but sometimes Roxi does work...I guess it's an occasional error in the burning that occurs...maybe it was just an unlucky burn

Theres a tick box for adding it in the burning window when you do audio burns Red , get them to open the full window as it hides some stuff under the Advanced tab

quicksilver, thanks so much for your help! i see the little tick-box. It was already checked, but I was using the Track at Once option instead of the Disc at Once, so the CD-text option was not available

i'm going to burn a cd now, hopefully it'll work!

I,m used to having the text shown on the car stereo but was embarassed once by a typo ... it was a compilation of "heavy rock"
(And for those who thought otherwise the typo was tock )

ahaha.. imagine if it was otherwise and your explanation to the police officer about why you were distracted when you hit another car by mistake ...

I tried burning the cd again and ... it didn't work. >< Still with the Track1, Track2 ..I checked the link you posted quicksilver, (very interesting, thanks for sharing!) and I'm think I figured it out now. My new laptop is a Sony VGN-S260, so I'm pretty sure it should have the CD-text ability. The CD-Rs I'm using though - they're several years old, so they may be the reason.

I'm going to go out and buy some new CDs later next week and see if that was the problem all along... hopefully! I would like to see all the info on the CD files -- typos and all

Your CD's have nothing to do with it. I use Nero and haven't haa problem with CD text not showing up. I'll have to investigate where the settings are for it as I don't remember off hand.

Update: I checked all the cd's I ever burned to cd audio format. I found that (much to my surprise) they all have cd text included. It seems that Nero does this by default. I just didn't know about it cos it seems none of my other players (outside the computer - stereo, car etc) can read the damn stuff.

odd...well when in doubt, just Use MUSICMATCH Jukebox, it's immediately recognizable

I think WINamp does good with it too
