Ever since I downloaded v3.53 I have been unable to share files with other users. They just get into the queue and the connection times out. I can download fine, but no one can download from me and I'm getting all these angry messages
I ran several searches on how to try and fix this but I didn't come up with anything. I'm on Windows XP, on SBC DSL. Could it be my firewall? If so, I have no clue how to turn it off/compromise.
This is for your benefit I have so many files to share. Thanks for any help in advance!
Ok, there is an XP Firewall that you will need to turn off, I take it you used to use 3.31, so possibly your old port configuration has been lost. To turn XP Firewall off, do the following:
Left click start, right click "network connections", scroll down to properties, left click that, click on advanced tab, a screen will appear showing you your network. There should be a box on the left that says: "protect my computer from outside intrusion", if that box is checked, uncheck it... That's it... do the same thing to turn it back on!

Thanks for all your help! I was successful in turning off my XP firewall, but still no one can download from me.. I really don't know what the problem could be, I don't think I have any other firewall. I use Norton Antivirus 2003 and AVG (free version), but I don't see any firewall options on either. grrr ...
I think I'll try uninstalling winmx then reinstalling it, see how it goes ..
Vintage Its not a good idea to run your computer without a firewall
