I don't think having strict guidlines of your own personal files, they belong to you. However there should be the courtesy of having the files named with enough information such as Artist and Title, which is sufficient enough. With WinMX close to changing how it is able to share files, the new beta has more power to share rare file types, which is an important key, and becuase often different programs use the same file extensions it can become a mess. In general, check your shared every once in a while for junk. I have junk in my shared becuase I haven't re organized my files. I usually keep movies seprate from music, and tv epidodes seprate from movies. Besides making it eaiser to share, it allows me to find the file with ease, especially with 2000 mp3's lying around. Most people probably have the sense to do this in some fashion.

Bandwidth. I don't care how many times it gets said, whether a person is too stuborn to believe me or just the person who flat out doesn't know. You need to know how to set your bandwidth throttle. I agree that 80-85% is needed, might vary depending on occasion, if your FTP-ing something, might want to decrease the throttle for uploads. But more the less set it accordingly. It doesn't matter whether you have a 28.8k or 56k, it comes down to your connection speed.

For those who don't know:

8 bits = 1 byte
8 Kbits = 1 KB (kilobyte)
1024 bytes = 1 KB = 8 Kbits
1024 KB = 1 MB = 8192 Kbits = 8.19 Mbits

Only thing I would like to add for newbies is that if your hosting a room, dont limit the bandwidth at all, or your room will keep crashing.

Also for the people on dial up who found the loophole in hosting a room, don't because it only shows your lack of knowledge and that you do not care if you can download music off of p2p networks. For one the lag is horrible sometimes taking more than a minute and it degrades the network since your dial up is working as a primary giving poor search results. So don't do it. If you want a room, get mIRC.

Here's my view on trading. As long as you do not cut off someone who is already uploading from you. Do use a anti-leech program to help stop those who do not contribute to the network, becuase it is how the network runs. Dogmeat had an excellent diagram showing how the network runs.
