Hi,
My first post here. I have been using WinMx problem free fora few months. Today I came home and my computer was off. When I started it it went through the shut down improperly check disk screen. Now when I try to open WinMx I get a message that it can't locate incoming files folder. Please specify where downloaded files should be stored. I put in the location where my files are stored and it starts to load library and then - WinMX error- WinMX has encountered a problem and has closed. Anyone know how to fix this problem? I tried reinstalling WinMX but same problem happens.

well i am not an expert but will say this...sounds like you may need to run a online virus scan, and especially look at any files you may have in your folder your incomings go to..
Btw:
What operating system?
Firewalls or anit virus on the pc?
and new things been added to the computer lately?
What version of Winmx are you using too?

thanks for the reply,
I am running xp and the latest version of Winmx. Norton Corporate AV, Ad-aware-pro and Spybot, Black-ice firewall and so on. Ran scan no virus, spyware or any other weird creatures that tend to wiggle their way into our brains in a box we call computers
. I am just gonna try and remove program, and reinstall mx see what happens.

OK let me know what you come up with if it worked or not...and i will do some research on your information you gave me..
Also if you downloaded anything suspicious from winmx or any where else dated the evening you might want to investigate that also...

I may be too late to say this but...
It may not be necessary to reinstall winmx. Just rename or delete the file library.dat in the winmx folder and see if the program starts ok. You'd have to reset all your shared folders because winmx wouldn't be able to find a library but it will build a new one in the even the current library is unavailable.
Dat files can be corrupted and since your pc was off - you may have suffered a loss of power while winmx was writing to the library file.
Most winmx users will find they have 6 dat files in the winmx program folder. Settings, libraray and ignore can easily be removed without problems. The next time the program is run, it will prompt for necessary info to rebuild them with (except ignore which fills up as you go along).

Sounds like a lot more work finding those file than it is to just reload Mx which is what I think was ME,s approach.

Thanks for all the help,Me Here, Quicksilver and Rat,
Great info on the .dat files as well.
I did reload MX and everything seems to be working well at this point except for occasional freeze, but if I leave it alone it kicks itself back into gear.
