They are more expensive then 3.5 IDE drives, but they are sorta the only option for most notebooks. I have heard pretty good reviews about both the Western Digital and Maxtor external hard drives.

$249 Maxtor OneTouch 120G USB 2.0
$304 Maxtor OneTouch 160G USB 2.0/Firewire 1394
$369 Maxtor OneTouch 200G USB 2.0/Firewire 1394
$397 Maxtor OneTouch 250G USB 2.0/Firewire 1394

Best place to find the best prices for the hubble state you call home is through http://www.ausprices.com

Its most certainly worth it, especially when you use a laptop, there are even external HD's that gets power from usb port, means only one cable to the laptop.
