There is a thing called The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) which is set to become law in the United States - provided a hearing goes "well" on Thursday of this week. In short, if the law is passed, anyone@somewhereintheusa and his mother will be able to shut down large chunks of the Internet by merely suggesting that the site may infringe someone's copyright. A good example is YouTube, which is likely to be immediately attacked by Viacom should this thing be passed.

If you ignore this, many popular sites may be shut down and that would have far reaching effects, way beyond American borders - which is why I'm interested.
