I am on a cable modem but my ISP has set a quotum on the amount of data we can UL and DL per month. Netstat Live is a tool I've found usefull to keep an eye on the amount of traffic from and to my computer, in real-time.

Bandwidth Monitor Pro is good. It's very customisable, it can be set to warn when you're approaching your monthly limit. I like the history it retains, you can view how much you've transfered daily/weekly/monthly and even yearly.

If you use bittorrent and you're registered at torrentz.com you can get it here

How do you know if you have a limit? Reach it and and be notified? Hmmm
