Why do you think WinMX is the ultimate File Sharing program? I gotta say its flexibility

It has WinMX Peer Network, OpenNap Protocols, and a Chat Client all in one! I mean, how many good P2P programs can boast that, on top of a network with millions of users

WinMX doesnt rule for everything. It's great for getting songs quickly, but when it comes to other file types it actually sucks. Users sharing games and movies are too picky and a lot are pure traders, making your chances of getting those files anytime soon unlikely unless you trade or know someone. Those files are much easier to get using Bit Torrent. I'm surprised WinMX is even still alive considering how long its been since the latest release. All of this time has allowed too many hacks and exploits to surface, making the program unreliable at best. The chat function is lame period, way too many bugs and exploits, and the add-on programs designed to make them run more smoothly contain more backdoors than an all anal gang bang film.
For variety and content its hard to beat WinMX for music, you can find almost any song you can think of. For everything else though, BT and newsgroups are hard to beat for speed and reliabilty.

I don't download movies, (cuase I am a lowly dial-up) But you sure put your finger on it about games. Every now and then though you do happen to run into a really nice person with a really nice link, lol.

I think winmx is best at music. The amount of music out there is probably the largest music collection in the word. Winmx is a majorly buggy POS. Its bugs are also one of its strongest assets. The bugs in it make it extremely difficult for organizations which go after copyright infringers to make good case. Ghost files alone are enough of a problem to thwart their attempts to round up the winmxers for extermination.

Ok, although WinMX is good, it has its faults:

1. Queuing problem, mp3s are fine, usually many alternative sources, but when it comes to large files, be prepared to wait days

2. Modifications, Moni and LeechHammer are great, but the zero hack, nushi poison, and other tools that seriously harm the network.. well they just gotta go, but they won't unless there is a new release

3. Leeches, thanks to Moni that issue has kinda resolved

Like Jc said, some of the problems and bugs help the users avoid copyright infringement

If you analyse WinMX as a peer to peer , it sucks a little, but compare it with others , heard of Kazaa ? I wish i had'nt! Fake files..0.0...bytes speed, ghost chat or messaging. You start a dl and by the time u finish it belongs to another era ! But WinMX...smooch.. is good..Guys think of what we got not what we could have had. I got most of my movies from WinMX which I could not have got otherwise (am in India). I feel one should not look at WinMX as a free movie store but as a free for all movie bank. put ur deposits and gain interest. I love this program...cheers

WinMX rules because of its ease of use, chat abilities, music selection, and overall the program is just cool.

The ability to get individual songs is amazing and most of the time you can find what you want.

Ok thx for the info all. I was planning to try WinMX but you talked me out of it. At this time I'm using DC++ which I really like. The only disadvantage it has is that it is totally not noob friendly during the first few days.

Maybe WinMX is good for downloading mp3 files but I never had a problem getting them with DC++. Don't compare WinMX with Kazaa cuz Kazaa sux for mp3's and is not that good for other files also.

When I want to chat I use IRC. Far more people and (I think) better clients.

Freggle my friend please try to stay away from dc++ its not a good idea as this particular one is like greased butter when it comes to getting a nice notice from the american movie piracy ppl . I know two ppl who got notified via thier ISP,s within a short time of using it .
Rats right with what he just said I meet so many good ppl on MX its like an extended family , plus the ability to connect to open nap makes it even better

Winmx is the greatest yes yes.... just have to agree. I am thrilled with having winmx!!!
