I honestly have no clue. I know Ouka is aware of the problem and has been for a while. I've been too busy lately and I havn't been able to talk with him in a few weeks. I know that Jason's been in contact with him recently though.

Speaking of which Jason, if you ever need help with the language barrier when you talk with him let me know and I'll try and help with it if I can.

Thank you, I will bear that in mind from now on :)
Most of the time we can chat between each other fairly well but there is that language barrier and we do tend to take the long way round no fault of his own of course, but thanks alot, having you between us will be alot more efficient, Thanks
And thank Ouka for me to if you would, i try but he is so quick when we chat and I can never get to actually thank him personally :)

I'm running the latest version of Ouka and until yesterday, everything was fine. However, yesterday a really strange thing happened where many of those in the room couldn't see any typed text, only 'darkness'!

As a host, I could still see everything, so could see what was happening by the chat.

Everything else was working fine and people were getting into the room.

I had no choice other than to restart Ouka. However, the problem resurfaced with some that came into the room. I had to reset my router to obtain a new IP and then everything seemed to work fine again!

I am also running Metis with auto-welcome, command responses and a timed message display.

Any ideas?

Hummm.... Not had any problems myself on the latest version yet. I will keep my eyes out for such tho...

Sounds like the router was your real trouble tho, although I would think they couldnt enter if it was... I seem to remember Jason having this trouble but with only one user I know of...and it hasnt happend since he done what ever he done to his system.. hehe

Maybe he can tell you what is up with it...

I LOVE MY OUKA..

Yeah i saw that happen to somone in my channel, only happened once to that one person and it was using an older version of the program. Dont really know what caused it as when I got back I could see that the person had been chatting away on my screen and I didn't actually do anything to resolve the problem on my end  :?
Sorry kinda draw a blank with that one :(

Well here's the update on the problem.

It seems to start happening after a while! People can get into the room, but can't see any typed text, not even their own :!:

We purposely got someone else to host to see if it was specific to when I host (in case it was something at my end), but the exact same thing happened.

We have had people saying that they thought the room was down, or that they had been banned!

It doesn't happen to everyone, which is even more confusing. So I am going to start asking what chat client and version is being used by those that have problems.

We run Ouka ChatServer_450c_2005_04_09_1300 and Metis 2.60.

If anyone wants to try and see if they get the prob in our room, please look for:

Is there any relation to the kinds of names people are using? i.e just names in something other than letters, (like the room's name for example ®ìghtèöµ§ §õftwà®ê). Or perhaps it may be the channel name itself. It is a Japanese prgram after all, and Japanese because is a two byte language some characters or a combination of them might be an issue.

The Alt+0160 hard space wreacks havoc on a Japanese computer, which is why it's blocked when using the Japanese interface as an example. My channel gets very few users with ascii names, and I've never had anyone mention any problems like what you're having. Though that doesn't nessecarily mean anything.

Is it specific to a certain chat client? RoboMX had issues with action text a good while ago because it didn't send the action text the same way as other clients.

Can't say exactly what the problem is honestly, but those are the two things I would keep an eye out for.

We haven't had the problem before, so I don't think it's anything to do with the names or Alt+0160.

I might record the clients that people use, though the majority use WinMx. If the problem persits, I shall revert back to an earlier version and see if it is just specific to the latest version.

Update:

Have reverted back to ChatServer_450c_2005_04_05_1000, we had no 'black screen' problems when running that version before. However, the problem persists!

The chat client is:
winmx 3.54 beta

But others using the same chat clients are not having problems!

I'm now getting people screaming that we should do away with Ouka, no way I say.

I run the same setup as Jason as far as I know. This is REALLY becomming a problem now :-(

That's odd because I've never seen that problem before.
What exactly do you mean by blank screen? Is the screen scrolling as if someone used #\r\n# a lot of times?
Also it's colours 35 and 36 I believe that don't display on 3.54. It appears as blank if 3.54 users try to view it.

If that's the case it sounds like something other than the server causing it. I'll hang around a bit with 3.54b4 and see if I notice anything unusual when I get home.

We have 2 main problems:

Users sometimes 'drop-out' of the room for no reason.

When some users come in, they cannot see any typed text. They have to leave and come in again in order to see the text.

I have NO 'odd' colour settings in use.

Update - Have turned colours Off. No bot, no other chat client running, just Ouka and STILL getting the problem.

It seems to get more prevailant the longer that Ouka is running!!!!!
