When someone makes a better program I might look it over but I like winmx for the one main reason " By the people for the people " ..us the network
.
WinMX is useless for anything larger, movies, games, applications etc. All the losers with their hacks and cracks to get out of uploading. Plus the useless users that have pesky upstream speed and open like 20 upload slots at like 0.5KB/s per slot... (edited
)
Anything under 100MB yeah sure, anything over mIRC bots are much easier.

I would agree with you but that statement is crap. Yes, there are good people on WinMX but the amount of virii, misnamed files, bad files, 0 shares, hacks and other nonsense makes WinMX a huge pain in the ass. Also the fact that FrontCode all but abandoned WinMX for many years without any kind of word doesn't help. They release a few betas and everyone is all excited. It's still the same crappy program it always has been but the chat is "better".quicksilver wrote:When someone makes a better program I might look it over but I like winmx for the one main reason " By the people for the people " ..us the network.
I am a huge advocate of BT. In order to download you have to upload. No way around it. Still haven't downloaded a bad file or a misnamed one yet, no virii either. There is no file size limit so I can get full DVD's or a whole TV Series at one shot. No queues, faster downloads and so many resources to choose from. If WinMX could get me 320k downloads without waiting a week to get to the top of the queue then maybe I would consider going back. It is a shame that you have to use add-on programs to make your life on WinMX tolerable but even those don't work 100% of the time. I shouldn't have to manage my queue. There are better alternatives to WinMX.

Am I wrong to talk about horses for courses here ?
It seems a lot of ppl on this forum like bit torrent ...fine, but where are my chat rooms , how easy is it in comparision to find a seed file to start joining in getting what you require ? If you can get it at all .
For large files I,m sure its very good but for the stuff I like like ( ebooks and mp3,s , winmx and add on program I collect ) who would waste time seeding those ??
I hear about all this hacking on WinMx but never seen much of it . Possible yes but not so widespread as is being made out here.
And I remember posting before about the greatest supporters of bit torrent being those who have heavyweight bandwidth to spare , ok for the happy elite but what about the "losers" as mentioned by Bacon ?

People aren't "losers" because they don't have 10Mbit upstream, I am talking about the people that open 20 odd slots and have lame upstream rates, then every transfer goes at like 0.28KB/s. You may as well not share at all if your going to take 932 hours to send a movie.quicksilver wrote:And I remember posting before about the greatest supporters of bit torrent being those who have heavyweight bandwidth to spare , ok for the happy elite but what about the "losers" as mentioned by Bacon ?
Chatrooms?? Why do you need a chatroom to get a file? It is not hard at all to find a file, depending on what you are looking for. I have downloaded a few e-books on BT and they were very well seeded. People will seed them because they are small in file size. It is easier to seed a small app or e-book then it is a movie or game. I actually think it is easier to get files with BT than WinMX. Different strokes for different folks.

Okay so blah blah blah lets all bash winmx? For some of us "losers" with slow upload speeds no one has a gun to your head to download from us.. at least we are tring to share and many of us were quiet clever in deciding that there are ways to increase speeds to a degree. If you look at any search on winmx any given one may yield thousands of results which says to me that most ppl are sharing files with the world. It wouldnt be fair to judge that on the few who dont...
I agree that BT is got its place in the world of file sharing but it doesnt replace winmx or make winmx obsolete in any way that I can see as I have been using winmx and amazingly still have no use for BT... something must be worth while..
I also have yet to receive a corrupted, mislabeled, or virus packed file on winmx and I am a downloading crazy woman on here.
As for the rooms on winmx I never saw them as a resource for getting any certain files from ppl rather a place to relax, laugh, enjoy, and experience other ppl from around the world. So although there are several good points to BT i see it like this.. as too there are for winmx and to each his own yes yes
So since this thread is called Why does winmx rule and this is the Cricket'MX' forum.... I have to stand up for winmx cause its been a great proggy for me in too many ways to mention.
Oh crap btw.... I just noticed that this is a MOD posting area.. does this mean I was supposed to be shhhhhhh.... lol.

Hold up, whats this ?
.
It seems that there is room for both programs ..
As Rat said
I think as a community building program WinMx wins all ways around.
I could sit on my own watching movies ...
This is the CricketMx WinMx section ME , feel free to ask or profer advice at anytimeOh crap btw.... I just noticed that this is a MOD posting area.. does this mean I was supposed to be shhhhhhh.... lol.

Well said Grinch and Me Here.I agree that BT is got its place in the world of file sharing but it doesnt replace winmx or make winmx obsolete in any way that I can see
As Rat said
Where did we meet ? In the "useless chat rooms "WinMX rules because.... it's how many of us met.

Me, I never said people with lower upstream rates are "losers", if you read my post, I said people who user hacks are the losers. And the 20 million slots open people that share 700MB files. As long as your sharing its good, but personally I will take Quality over Quantity, thats 1 source at 50KB/s over 50 sources at 1KB/s respectivly.me here wrote:Okay so blah blah blah lets all bash winmx? WinMX is a good program and peering network, however like I have said, there are better ways of getting larger files, my favourite been mIRC bots. The chat is also a good feature, but WinMX still has a while to go.
And quick, if you want 'biggest supporters', hows ~3.5GB/day of uploads sound... thats my usual upload traffic per day on WinMX. 100% legal content of course
Again, sorry me, I am not calling you or anything else on the forum a loser, unless you use hacks that is....

Hmm ???

Its not good policy to refer to a post that you have edited just that day as supporting evidence Bacon..Me, I never said people with lower upstream rates are "losers", if you read my post, I said people who user hacks are the losers. Aww Bacon I know you didnt mean me personally..
but I have heard comments in other places of the internet world about us lowly 56kers...and just have to stand in their defence...hehehe
I just want it clear that there are alot of really great things about both Winmx and BT. Since this thread is titled 'Why Winmx Rules' and then it seemed to be taking a beating ... Maybe we need a 'Why BT rules' thread aswell, then everyone can look at the pros and cons of both and decide for themselves which is better for them.

I have downloaded a fair share of files off of 56k people. Bandwidth is bandwidth and with both WinMX and BT, more sources mean faster downloads. Arguing about this is like arguing about abortion. No sense in it. I just got really tired of the queues, people begging for trades and the other nonsense that does exist on WinMX. The only problem with BT is the high profilethat it has. It is real easy to get yourself into trouble. I have received 4 DMCA complaints so far and I am sure I will get more. But when I can instantly connect to 100 people and my download starts immediately, I am extremely happy. When I have to wait days or weeks just to start downloading a file then I am not so happy. You would be surprised to see how strong and helpful the BT community is. Just logon to filesoup's forums and see for yourself. For as many winmx help sites that I can find I can easily find double or triple that for BT. I just don't see WinMX the same anymore since making the leap into BT. Of course I mostly download movies so BT is a better option. I will agree that mp3's are better on WinMX.
I consider this "argument" to be a Mexican Standoff" No one will be declared a true winner. I had some good times on WinMX and I iwill always offer my support with it since it was the first p2p app I ever used.

I like to think this is a "lively discussion" not an arguement Grinch
.
It seemed nice and easy from my point of view big files and big bandwidth = bit torrent , low bandwidth and smallish file s WinMx .
Part of the WinMx experience is the chats and love or hate em there very lively and instant help can be obtained in real time.
Whatever we all use its all of us who win , but we must compare like with like
