I'm looking for a free webhost that doesn't suck. I don't need all the PHP and MySQL stuff, at least not now. I'm just wanting to have a website, for myself. Just need the basics, nothing too snazzy...but I dont want ads or a long ass url to get there...also something i can eventually point to a domain...

http://www.110mb.com/ - I created an account here just for the hell of it. If you want MySQL it is a one time setup fee as it is for their other services beyond just simple web hosting.

These guys aren't totally free but they're really close:

I think I'm spending about 4 cents a day right now, and that's mostly for 90MB of photos that I needed to make available quickly.
They allow you to point a domain at them, and they register them pretty cheaply too.

Home servers ftw! http://incomprehensible.ath.cx is a very dull example (mine )
Lurking since 2004
I use something similar, but I get the dns through http://freedns.afraid.org/ .
The biggest reason to use an outside server is for the boost in bandwidth compared to my home connection.
