Moon's USB heaven

Moon USB Memory Key
Image
Set a fashion statement and let technology become your personal jewel! The pendant is a 2 GB USB key with a high-speed 2.0 interface for the storage of about 500 songs or 2000 photos for the most precious data. A polished stainless steel body is the setting for the fully facetted clear crystal.

The Moon USB Memory Keys have a polished stainless steel body with either a fully faceted Chrome or clear crystal. They come with a retractable USB connector that can be released by pressing the crystal chaton on top. All four are now in 2GB, a rather disappointing upgrade taken account into their pricing. The Moons currently retail for €190 each.

The Effect Of Dominoes - Is Pretty Flash!!
Image
Flash drives that use capacity meters to give you a (fairly) accurate representation of available drive space aren't anything new - we reviewed the Lexar JumpDrive Mercury and its LCD meter back in May, 2006 - but that doesn't mean designers aren't trying to come up with new variations and make use of this technology in new and interesting ways. Today's example: a set of flash drives shaped like domino. Two drives fit together to make one domino and each domino dot represents 1/9th of the drive's capacity - fill that amount and the dot lights up.

The domino design isn't anything more than a mapped-out dream at this point, but looking at it, we think modern art more than anything else. We're imagining an exhibit laid out like a game of dominos, with pictures and videos of dominos taking up the capacity on each drive to give the different numbers of dots.

This has a geekish ring about it...if u(sb) know what I mean!!

Image
Wow... this is like some engagement rings that avid readers of Everything USB would use for proposal of marriage. Even if it's just concept, the size of the crystal is just out of this world. The ring is tethered to the flash drive component, which we reckon might be an ideal location to store the love poems or whatever. Oddly, the two rings can be joined, allowing content to be exchanged. How this works without battery power is beyond us. Nonetheless, if your loved one is also a USB geek, this might be you need. There are obviously other choices of Swaroski flash drives if you are quite ready for this crystal USB ring insanity.

A limited edition, glow-in-the-dark guardian of the USB-World

Perhaps only the god knows when Mimobot can stop milking on the current flash drive design that has made C-3PO, Darth Sidious, Master Chief and a bunch of others look like weirdos. This time, Mimobot comes up with rayD8gig - an inversely-colored skeletal figure combing black paint and a glow-in the-dark base. The 2.5" by 1" designer USB drive like all the other Mimobots will let you customize sound effects played during drive mount and removal. As the name implies, rayD8gig will ship only in 8GB capacity, but not so obvious is that only 200 will be made going for $99.95 each.

R2-D2 USB Hub
Image
Almost as versatile as a real Astromech

There are lots of astromechs out there, but no design more popular than the venerable R2 unit. Sure, R4's are great, but they lack the personality R2 units are known for. Not everyone can speak in bleeps and bloops, but you won't have much trouble getting the gist of what they say.

While we don't yet have the technology in this corner of the galaxy for fully automated repair droids like R2 units, we can get a portion of R2's versatility into something small enough to sit on your desk.

Features

* Official Star Wars R2-D2 4-Port USB Hub
* 4 USB 2.0 ports ports along the base of his chassis
* Chirps, squeals and beeps when you plug a new device into him
* Articulated legs allow R2 to stand up straight, or recline
* Powered by the USB bus, so a power supply isn't necessary for operation
o Some high-powered USB devices may need extra power, so R2 accepts a 7.5A external power supply (not included)

Giving the old USB a hammering!!
Image
Plankton (not the tiny green nemesis of Sponge Bob and Mr. Crab) has a very interesting flash drive that looks like a giant nail driven into your computer. The drive is called Nailed and is made from polyurethane and iron. The drive measures 90 x 34mm, and has 1GB of flash storage. The price to get nailed is 29 euro and I am not sure if you can get one in the US.

The third in a line of new collectible products produced in conjunction with 5.5 Designers, the stylish CurrenKey is a practical tool for your home or business, but its playful and inventive design differentiates it from other USB Flash drives on the market.
