ok i brought a DVD burner and its pretty much the same 1 you have grimch but newer i think..
ok well i already had a CD burner in my comp and a old CD-ROM but that was'nt connected as i did'nt have the IDE cables for 2..
so i ripped the old 1 out banged the new 1 in and it detected it straight away and cuz i had added other hardware i had 2 install that 1st and when i later went back to the DVD burner it was showin it as installed and fully functional..
but it wont read any DVD's or CD's, so i changed the breakers on all settings ( DVD only ) and still no good.
CD burner is master and i tried DVD on all..
what do you think ppl?? shoud i disconnect it and boot up, then boot down and connect again and see if it detects???

That is strange. I think mine is slaved off my sexy Plexy. Disconnect it, boot it up and then shut it down, hook it back up and see what happens. It should play DVD's perfectly. Mine has worked like a champ for a year now with no complaints.
Does the drive show up in my computer?
Did you check the bios to see if all the ide's are enabled and enabled correctly?

Don't count your toads until they're running around with their heads cut off.
