This is my opinion of modern computers, at this point CPU clocks dont really make much difference if you're using windows, but:

Intel Pentium 4 (786) Willamette 1.6 GHz 256KB L2 Cache
400 MHz FSB
Intel D845PT Desktop Motherboard
256 MB RAM (266 MHz Data rate)

:::Devices:::

Maxtor 40 GB Hard Disk (Primary Master)
(16 MB seq. read, 540 MB buff'd. read, 15 MB seq. write, 7200 RPMs)

Seagate 80 GB Hard Disk (Primary Slave)
(33 MB seq. read, 27 seq. write, 7200 RPMs)

Maxtor Floppy 3.5" Drive (61 KB/sec r&w)

CD-RW 24/16x (Secondary Master)

Liteon DVD ROM 16x (Secondary Slave)

6 USB Ports

1 Serial & Parallel

nVida GeForce 2 MX, 32 MB VRAM

SoundMAX Digital Audio (Intergrated)

Intel(R) PRO/100 VE (Intergrated)

US Robotics 56k Fax winmodem

:::External Devices:::

Gateway PC Camera (Webcam) (USB)

Axis Gamepad (USB)

Cambridge Soundworks Stereo Speakers (3+3 watts) (Sound Out)

Gateway EV700 16" viewable monitor (Video Out)

EPSON CX3200 Scanner/Printer (USB)

Gateway Millenium Keyboard (Standard 102)

Logtech Optical Mouse

and to top it off, I have two cup holders :P

Asus P4P800 1 GB LAN, 800 Mhz FSB, 8xUSB 2.0, 5xPCI, 1 AGP, 1 WAN slot
Kingston DDR SDRAM, 1024 MB (2x512), PC3200, Dual Channel, 500 Mhz

Pioneer 8x Internal DVD±RW/CD-RW

Basically, it's fast. My old computer is still crying after this bad boy bitch-slapped it.

I'm not using it full time yet. I still have to tear out the old heatsink and install the liquid cooling. Once that is in I can start overclocking. Then I'll get some benchmarks. Graphics won't be amazing marks though. That card is 8 months old and a lot has changed.

But mine still isn't bad, I want to do some upgrades but my wife would kick my ass. All I want to do is add 2 more 120GB hard drives and put a 3gig proc in it. Too bad I am stuck with the 533 FSB unless I swap mobo's as well.

Yeah im just playing with ya, but yeah a 800mhz FSB will give you lots more juice plus Hyper Threading is uber cool with lots of ***** going on at once. Plus you could dig up a motherboard with all the good stuff like SATA, RAID, AGP x8, ATA/133, 800mhz FSB and Gigabit and you should be pretty future proof til PCI Xpress and DDR2 start to settle into the market.

I am trying to talk my wife into letting me spend 500 to upgrade my PC. The upgrade plan is as follows:

Asus IC7 Mobo - Supports the Prescott P4 800Mhz FSB
P4 2.8E which I plan to overclock the ***** out of.
2 more Western Digital 120GB HDD to give me a total hard drive space of 480GB, of course RAID'd together for optimal performance. I also have a spare 20GB hard drive I may through in there just for the hell of it.

Cool sounds good, I have a 2.8Ghz Prescott and have succesfully clocked it at 3.4Ghz. The 1MB of L2 cache is good for all your encoding needs =)

Then I will take my old mobo and proc with a spare 512MB of PC3200, and 80 GB hard drive and make a linux box so I can finally learn how to use that damn OS.

I have been pretty happy with my box so far, but as most know we are never satisfied and i am already looking into getting a new box started up.

I am always going to stick with the AMD processors, because i have never had a problem with them, just have to have a little more air moving.
