Great guide there (first post). So important to keep security tight to drastically reduce the risk of infections. What gets me is that some people don't even activate trial versions that come with a new PC! One friend called me and said "there's all this stuff popping up on screen". I checked it out, found 4255 viruses and the free trial of Norton not even activated. They thought it was already automatically protected! They had already taken it to PC World who told them to get a new PC. What did I do? As it was only a month old, simply flattened it back to factory settings. One clean PC.
I normally install AVG on friends PC's if they can't afford any security software. I use F-Secure and have done for about three years now and it's stopped everything. About the only thing I pay for software-wise.

If you don't ask...
That sounds like my first computer. I didn't understand that I needed to configure PC-Cillin. Took me about 3 days before I had to reload. Bought a copy of Norton.quahappy wrote:... I've been using AVG since then.
Indeed, first install AVG. then Spybot and Adaware.
Don't go surfing the WhackyHack-channels untill they up and running.
Remember, your computer is your b|tch, not someone else's.
Ran Spybot for the first time in two months surfing: Nothing in it.
I'll prolly start using it when I start downloading ALL THOSE MAGNIFICENT SCREENSAVERS
