I just format my C: drive again :x earlier today and instead of getting all the updates from M$ update page,I used the Catalog option instead an download all the updates that i needed to my HD, i couldn't install 2 of them, the 1st one said i need IE 6 SP 1 & q810847.I download that file I tried it , but it said i need IE 6 SP 1,i have IE 6 installed.
Anyone know why I can't install them? :?
When I click help in IE, then click about IE it says i have version 6.0.2800.1106 SP 1 & some other updates installed.
I'm still using M$ ME.

Would it be possible to reformat and install win2k, or even 98? I don't know anything about ME, well, nothing I can say on a forum my mom reads. :)

What is the CPU speed of your computer and how much memory and hard disk space...

Windows Me is a pile of *****

Windows 2000 is stable with all the updates
Windows XP is stable but slower on a few things because of the elagance of it.

To run a computer with Windows XP I recommend:

CPU: 500 MHz or Greater
Mem: 256 MB or greater
HDD: 2 GB or greater*

*-Only for installation, likewise you'll want to most you can afford.

The biggest thing is memory, a system with 128 will run, but my god is it slower than *****. The CPU doesn't come in effect until you go under 500 MHz on a Intel machine. Unless you're running a server or software that does video rendering boost it up to about 3 GHz, and it's still slow.

Get Windows XP off BT or whatever you use, the file size should be around 700 MB, get the version with SP2 alread on it and get a cracker, there are ones that work and there are ones that dont, be careful of viruses, some of the real files are the same relative size of a virus. Look for something legitamate, a file named "Ws Windows xp 98 95 311 activation crack hack.zip" is probably a virus, why? Do some reasearch, in this case I would note that Windows did not have product activation until XP.

If your computer doesn't meet those guildelines I would not put XP on the computer, put Windows 2000, it should run pretty well all the way down, got to realize the time that win 2k came out most computers only had 64 MB of ram, figure 32 MB would be sufficient for win 2k.

MY CPU is a P4 2.6ghz HT , my MEM is 512mb & 2x40gb HDD.
I'm on a 56k so that would take me a very long time to download XP SP2.
I was thinking of buying a OEM version of XP SP2 , but i would have to buy a piece of hardware to update my PC to buy it.It would cost only $90 for the OEM version ,instead of buying the retail version for $300.
