Re: What was your first home computer and game?
I got my first in '94, but it was an '81 model. Green monitor, no hard disk, and the floppies didn't seem to write. Didn't come with any games, but I would copy small games in BASIC from magazines. Nothing complicated. 100 lines of code, I think. I remember two. One was a text based mountain climbin...

Re: Firefox...is it really needed?
Firefox had a crashing issue in Linux on my computer. the problem is the Flash plugin. I installed Flashblock so I only run Flash that I want, instead of logos, ads, and random widgets. Problem solved. I've also used Flashblock on our older computer because a few Flash ads really eat up the processor.

Re: What Operating System Do You Like Best?
I'm with you about Vista P2P, from what I've heard (haven't used it) it is a lot worse than XP. Having said that, the next laptop I buy in the coming years will probably be Vista because it's getting harder to find new XP laptops now... I have used it, and that didn't make me like it any more. Righ...

Re: Solitare Game Crashes on Windows 95
Which VM did you use? I recently tried Win98 in VirtualBox and had a bit of a hard time. Video and Sound drivers weren't picked up. I would expect even more trouble from 95.

Re: Tribler Set to Make BitTorrent Sites Obsolete
I wonder how they manage the connections. With WinMX there had to be a central server to point you to other peers. With Bit Torrent, you use a tracker. Without some central server, how do you know where the first of your peers is? Randomly try to connect to IP addresses on the internet until you fin...

Re: US Elections - Hey Alien! You Can Vote Too!
It's sad that there are only two options on the page. I'll have to opt for Bob Barr as a write-in. In some states, the main two candidates had not registered to be on the ballot by the deadline, but they are allowed to appear anyway. (In fact, one side had not even nominated his choice for VP before...

Re: What is your homepage?
Where do the bookmark images come from? I know that some favicons have a larger image built in, but what if a site doesn't use one at all? For instance, what icon is used if you bookmark http://www.bash.org/ ?

I don't, but a friend of mine has an iPod Touch that I've played with. Neat toy, but I'm pretty sure I'd drop one in the toilet while reading if I had one.battye wrote:Do you have an iPhone nes?

Re: What is your homepage?
I recently updated my startpage. I've added favicons to the links for the pages. http://nesman.afraid.org/layout28/fav.html Some of the links are outdated, so I really need to update. Also, not every site uses a favicon, so I probably cause a lot of 404's to show in people's error logs. ;) I've thou...

Thanks! I mostly set it up to play with. The .com was taken/parked, but the .net has grown on me. If anyone's interested in the specifics: It's hosted and registered at NearlyFreeSpeech.net for roughly peanuts. I use NanoBlogger to manage content. "powered by vi, bash, cat, grep, sed, and nb 3....

Re: 3 Steps - Keep your computer Crap Free
... I checked it out, found 4255 viruses and the free trial of Norton not even activated. They thought it was already automatically protected! That sounds like my first computer. :) I didn't understand that I needed to configure PC-Cillin. Took me about 3 days before I had to reload. Bought a copy ...

Sorry to hear about your data loss. been there, done that, gone through therapy. :drinkers: It could possibly be a heat issue. You might have some luck with Motherboard Monitor. I've had machines that would run for a while and then crap out when the cpu warmed up. You might have some luck checking t...

Sorry if I've missed something and am being dense.
Huh? TFP? It looks like a site layout mockup, but it seems to have a pool. Please tell me you're building a new home and doing the blueprint in HTML
