All I can say is that ever since I stopped using IE and started using FF, my spyware/adware issues have ceased to exist and my browsing habits have not changed.

FF has so many advantages. Just because IE comes installed and has basic functionality doesn't mean I should use it.

A lot of people are diligently working to get DRM removed as it is becoming a nuisance. DRM isn't even about stopping pirating, it is just another level of control.

DHCP. The switch should be able to pass through the DHCP requests and acknowledgements. This is assuming the router does DHCP.

Any IP ending in 255 is the broadcast address.

Just browsing through some of the online Dlink guides, they use 192.168.0.1 for the router address as default. So try there first.
