The unintended benefits of online sports streaming

I first heard about Mazarin in 2007. I was watching a cricket broadcast online. Before YouTube had live streaming capabilities and before the likes of Sony LIV dumped games without broadcast partners on to their streaming platform, the only way to watch cricket online was painfully. It involved p.....

Using XSD to assist in XML deserialisation to objects in C Sharp

In the past when I have performed deserialisation (taking the hierarchical contents of an XML file and converting that that to an object hierarchy at run time) I have used methods such as XmlDocument and manually created objects, or created my own classes and implemented a more traditional style of...

Coca Cola Bottle Bat in the Australian summer of cricket

The Coca Cola BottleBat is this summers cricket promotion. It is tough for companies to keep ideas fresh and it is even harder to top the promotions of years gone by - the talking Boonie figurines offered by VB with a carton of beer several years ago were immensely popular. The Coca Cola BottleBat ...

Community on NBC continues to please with a few paintballs

Abed said on the season finale of Community that "sequels are almost always disappointing" - but that rule doesn't apply to paintball. Spoiler alert for below. Community has done what few other sitcoms can do and use what is widely regarded as their best episode (S01E23, Modern W... Read ...

How to get the most out of iPhone Tracker on Leopard and how does it impact our privacy

Recently people have been talking about how iPhones are tracking movements of users and how the Mac app iPhone Tracker is displaying this data visually. Personally I don't see it as a huge problem because the phone companies already know this information, and many Apps require location data anyway....

How the formation of The Young Veins benefits Panic At The Disco

It was incredibly hard to create a title to summarise this article. I like The Young Veins a lot and I didn't want to imply that the depatures of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker automatically made Panic! At The Disco, hot on the heels of their new album "Vices & Virtues" a better band. The ....

Save time in Linux with bash_aliases

Recently I installed LAMP under Ubuntu and the kind folk in the #ubuntu IRC channel gave me some fantastic - not to mention time saving! - advice. If you have any long commands you can easily shorten them through the use of aliases. For instance, with LAMP the command to start Apache was the long ....

Five reasons to watch Chuck on NBC

Until mid 2010 I had never seen Chuck, but thanks to the heated (passionate?) discussion about Chuck at TVByTheNumbers.com due to its bubble status on NBC I was intrigued enough to trial the show. As it turns out, it is a very good show and I'm thankful it ha...

Cheesy fries and the Bandito Pockett define fast food in Sin

Population wise Australia is quite small, such that even the largest city - Sydney (4.5 million) - it has fewer people than Singapore (4.9 million) despite the advantage of land and room for expansion. Australia is a fantastic country in many ways, but in my opinion decentralised urban centres with...

Finale of Hey Hey Its Saturday 2010 and a farewell to GTV

Last night Hey Hey It's Saturday bid farewell to the Channel 9 studios at 22 Bendigo Street, Richmond. Whether it was a farewell from television still remains to be seen. Earlier this year I looked at Hey Hey It's Saturday's comeback ratings, where the trend wasn't promising. Since then the show ha...

Answers to random questions on Yahoo Answers

I had a bit of time, so I thought I'd look at some of the open questions on Yahoo Answers. In bold are the questions, with my answers below. I haven't posted these answers on Yahoo Answers, so they are exclusive to CricketMX.com. I've re-worded some of the questions as some of them had a shocking l...

How to revert back to the classic iTunes icon

The arrival of iTunes 10 has brought with it a brand new iTunes logo. The general general feeling about iTunes 10 - so far - has been fairly negative. Why is it in blakc and white now? Why are the close and minimise buttons now shown vertically? What is the point of Ping? What is with the unimagina...
