Intel Unveils New Consumer Technologies - Intel Viiv (January, 2006)

Viiv-based PCs will be offered in a variety of packages, including all-in-one hybrid TVs and book-sized PCs. The technology is designed to allow consumers to download, view and manage digital entertainment on a variety of viewing screens and networked devices like digital TVs, portable media players and routers. It also enables a PC to be turned on and off instantly after the initial boot.

The Centrino Duo mobile technology, featuring the Core Duo processor, offers performance-per-watt efficiency and a number of wireless connectivity options. Systems will be available in a number of sizes featuring surround sound, enhanced graphics, and HDTV support. Some models will feature up to 17-inch plus widescreens.

AOL PARTNERSHIP
As part of the Viiv rollout, AOL and Intel have announced a new initiative designed to bring AOL digital entertainment services to customers’ livings rooms through Viiv-based PCs. A variety of AOL content including movies, television shows, music and videos will be tailored for Intel’s Viiv platform, which will enable the content to be viewed on home television sets and other devices.

The AOL Video service will be available later this year, offering on-demand entertainment throughout the home. Customer will be able to access AOL’s video library of television, games, movies and music and some features will be available in DVD quality via the AOL Hi-Q Video format. The services will feature In2TV, offering classic television programming through a broadband network. AOL Music On Demand is already available, offering videos, in-studio performances and live concerts. AOL Radio also features XM Satellite Radio with more than 250 stations of members to choose from.
