This is very :( news.***** the  RIAA cartels.
It's looks like it's the end of WinMX.It looks like they gave in to the RIAA's cease & desist letter that they sent to WinMX.The last time i was on it yesterday I couldn't connect to MX. The WPN peer caches servers are offline, you can still use MX for chat if you know the name of the room by using the chatroom filter by writing the room name then click join or if the room is on your favourite rooms list,i'm not sure but i think if the room uses third party chat servers you can still get into those rooms. You can also still use OpenNap through MX.
You can join the WMW chatroom WinMxWorld.Com_32D143D119C9

WinMX goes offline

p2p news / p2pnet:- “Within the last several hours, neither myself nor Smitty have been able to connect to the WPN. It seems that http://www.winmx.com has dropped off the radar. ...it also seems that http://www.frontcode.com has been taken down as well.â€

Very unfortunate indeed, ironic that a quote from Vulpes signature (of WinMXCommunity.com) comes to mind:

"What has a beginning must come to an end"

WinMX users thought they were safe. They only thought Kazaa, BT and others were at risk. I guess the decentralized nature of WinMX did nothing but delay the inevitable. Oh well, it was a good run while it lasted.

I will note that BT is still going strong regardless of the RIAA/MPAA attacks. Maybe WinMX can continue the same but it is unlikely.

ME Here wrote this at winmxworld .
The last bit of news I have to report as of today is that the ppl that are working on development of a Peer Cache system have had some success connecting with a secondary and are now moving on to making the connection of primaries.

Keep your eyes on here and your chins up ppl we aint heard a Fat Lady singing here yet....

And here I was thinking that I was going to have to reinstall mom's copy.

So, how long till we get the patch that gets us to use alternate servers?

Resurrecting WinMX
September 23, 2005
Thomas Mennecke

WinMX fans awoke Wednesday to disturbing news. However before realizing this news, the WinMX population was faced with the inability to connect to this community. Finally news reports began circulating that individuals were not alone and indeed the entire community had collapsed including the WinMX.com website.

Although the demise of FrontCode Technologies along with its WinMX.com homepage would not have been the end of the world, WinMX.com provided the all-important host cache server. This server provided the IP addresses to WinMX supernodes, thereby allowing clients entry to the network. With the WinMX.com domain eliminated, the network collapsed. That is unless of course someone establishes a new method of connecting to WinMX hosts.

P2Pzone.net, a popular Italian P2P news site has a collaborative effort resurrected the WinMX network. The method is quite simple. P2Pzone.net has indexed over 200 functioning WinMX hosts readily available to incoming WinMX connections. It requires the user to download a new host list provided from P2PZone.net, which redirects the WinMX client to the functioning hosts. From P2Pzone.net:

This is the procedure to configure your pc to connect with WinMx:

1) Download a new host file from this URL: http://205.238.40.1/hosts/hosts

2) After downloading the "hosts" file (is a windows file included in the system) we can proceed.

3) Now paste the new file "hosts" in the Windows directory respective to its version:

For Windows 95/98/Me the directory is c:\windows\hosts

For Windows NT/2000/XP Pro the directory is c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

For Windows XP Home the directory is c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Now we can replace the "hosts" file.

4) For Win2k & XP users, sometimes may be necessary use the command "ipconfig /flushdns" from the command prompt.

5) Now, open WinMx and try to connect with primary connection!

Luca, the administrator of P2Pzone.net, tells Slyck.com this is a temporary fix and the developers are working on a more permanent solution. From public reaction so far and from our own testing, this method works exceedingly well. WinMX fans will certainly have a place to call home once again.

I don't really see why you would want to resurrect it but congrats anyway.

From winmxworld:
As you know the peer caches that allow us to connect to other primaries on the WinMX Peer Network where forced to shut down over impending litigations. As soon as this started the GREAT community that we all know and love came together to find a fix. Approximately 6 hours ago a fix was made by Mr Drac. A long time WinMX programmer. His great work enabled other programmers like our own KM to developer a patch that will work!!!
 download KM's host
 link to Vladds site for Vladds host file
 download Both Combined

Josh Wrote:
I have put together a program to patch your host file with a click of a button. You simply open it click the button that has your os and it and boom! All fixed! You still will probably have to restart winmx to get it to connect!
 download Peer-Cache-Patch-1.0.exe

Very important if you're a primary WinMX user can you please download PeerGuardian2 to help stop the RIAA from flooding & attacking the network.

Also download this File_Flooding_F*cktards to add to your PG2 blocklist.
There are also a few IPs that are on the Block list at present time that you should allow.
You can get that by right clicking here Allow List and choose Save Target As. Then upload this exactly as you did the block list only choose the allow option.
Thanks to Mr Drac, KM, TSC, Vladd , Josh & anyone else who helped keep MX alive.
Also thanks to Me Here for the PG2 & blocklist info.
Thanks to winmxworld , Vladd44 & winmxunlimited.

Updated Patch!!

http://www.winmxgroup.com/

 Download a patch to get your WinMX working!

Just put the patch in your WinMX directory and WinMX will function properly.

Note: if you have BendMX or RCMS then DO NOT replace BendMX/RCMS with this patch or it will replace BenxMD/RCMS! Instead replace the file named WS2_32o.dll

If you are currently using one of the modified Hosts files to connect then it is strongly advised that you switch to using this patch as the host files restrict you to specific peer caches, this patch also contains additional features such as blocking the RIAA that should help the network out a lot.

Edit updated info from winmxgroup:
Users of WinMX 3.53 using the "olepro32.dll" channel list patch, some users have reported conflicts beteen the 2 patches (while a couple have said it works fine). If you do suffer problems then try removing the "olepro32.dll" patch.

Windows 98/ME Users. Please be aware that this does not seem to function on these operating systems yet. I will look in to resolving this issue tomorrow evening.

Thanks :D people for keeping WinMX Alive!!Image

From what I have read and learned, the new patch created by KM that is just dropped in your winmx directory. It blocks the RIAA already, which would make things a lot easier, because not everyone would run Pear Guardian. Also, someone could just update the list of IPs where ever and the patch could look and block those without everyone having to block it. Make the WPN more secure and safer from those file flooding bastards.

Also, there is news about Torrents now being flooded with fake files...sound familar? This must be RIAA's tactics on shutting down programs and networks like all this. Flood it with fake files, weaken it, then shut the damn thing down.
