I am having a performance problem!!
Whenever WinMx is Running I find that Windows Explorer is very active
As a result, watching a movie etc is very jerky.
When I invoke TaskManager and view "Processes" I see that "explorer.exe" is consuming up to 40% CPU on a Pentium-4 2.4GHz
Anyone know what the problem is?
WinMX running causes explorer.exe to chew up to 40% CPU

What version of winmx are you running? Older builds suffered from terrible memory leaks and gradually used more and more resources until finally the machine would crash. Make sure you're using the latest client software... currently 3.54 beta 4.

I'm currently running version 3.53 - I'll install 3.54 B4 to see if that helps - thank you

I have now installed WinMx 3.54 Beta - Rebooted - the problem continues
Any more suggestions? - Do you have a similar problem? - When you invoke Taskmanager and set the display sequence to CPU, what are the top CPU users?

What does "Moved to Support" mean Battye?
No problems here (see image). Top users are Firefox and Thunderbird. Are you using XP?RussellSydneyOz wrote:Any more suggestions? - Do you have a similar problem? - When you invoke Taskmanager and set the display sequence to CPU, what are the top CPU users?

I'd suspect Zone Alarm. Are you using it?

I have somewhat resolved the problem!!!
I installed a small (6GB) additional harddrive, then moved the INCOMPLETE winMX download files, The SHARED FILES Folder, and the WinMX Program folder to this drive - thus isolating WinMX to that drive
I left behind any completed download files.
My CPU performance improved dramatically - "explorer.exe" usage dropped to 2%

That would fit with the facts ,as explorer.exe is the main part of windows as you can see if you turn it off in task manager ( for those who may try this ,to restore your desktop and all the visible parts of windows, open File-New Task (run) and enter explorer.exe).

I,m sure we could all do with more of everything Red , but I suppose our pockets are empty after this festive fuelled spending frenzy.
