Noob hoping for help! Just started with Winmx and my movie downloads are very slow( 2kps). I have Verizon DSL, the dreaded SP2, and can only get a secondary connection. What sort of speed should I expect? My skills are a little weak so be gentle. It's hard to get a leg up when you don't have any files yet. Thanks in advance!

Ok, it depends on how fast the DSL is and what the connection is of the person you are downloading off. If you download off a 56k user, then the speed will not be any more than 2 or 3kb.

There is yet another issue and that is limiting bandwidth in winmx, to read more on the issue go to http://www.computerlandchat.tk go to the winmx section and then look for bandwidth, good luck.

Verizon DSL is 1.5Mb down 384K up. So you should see download is in the vicinity of 187k and uploads around 48k. There is nothing wrong with a secondary connection so don't worry about that.

Looking at this picture I would check both boxes and but 150 in the top one and 38 in the bottom one.

Try that first and if that doesn't help please post back.

alex1* I really think thats a rediculous amout of outging slots for DSL connection with 384kbps upstream. All it ends up with is lots of transfers running at pathetic speeds. Im sure you would agree when you download a file you want it as fast and as quick as possible, but if you have ~12 slots open theres no way those speeds will be acheived anytime soon.

Personally, I think you should allocate 1 slot per 128kbps of upstream bandwidth, that way files send at decent speeds and your que actually moves. I have 512kbps/512kbps ADSL and I open 4 slots and run on Primary, that way total upload through-put is about 42KB/s (transfers) + 10KB/s (primary traffic) giving about 10KB/s per slot, sometimes more depending on Primary Network Traffic.
