Why Does WinMX Rule?
Moderator: CricketMX Forum Moderators
I was using the term argument loosely Quick. You could say that the chatrooms are part of the experience but a lot of users barely know they exist. Yes the WCC/WCG room is very helpful, where as others are not. But the same things exist for BT as well. They may not be as well known but they are there. You just have to delve yourself into the world of BT to find them.

I suppose its because I dont watch television much that I dont watch films much either. I do like the bit torrent idea as I like the idea of not relying on a server or site for operation . Napster legacy phobia
I have to agree with all the Winmx lovers out there, its the best program i have used ( and i have used a lot of P2P programs ). Maybe there are long queues and other stuff. I have met most of u over the winmx chat room ( if not there, i have met u here ).
And asfor BT it sux hard for the average 56ker as it can take just as long than winmx to download. I have used both programs on 56k and cable and ok maybe when u got the bandwidth to use BT can go fast but what about winmx, just as good.
Also another point is that if Winmx didnt exist well neither would this forum i suppose, Then none of u would have a place to talk about this and that, i have gone from 56k to cable and back to 56k, but i dont complain about the long waiting lists for mp3's or programs, i just take it as it is. The thing i dont like about BT is, ISP's sending you notices to stop using their bandwidth and also trying to find a GOOD program that WORKS.
I have had programs off BT that wouldnt load or were currupt, so you cant say that they are not out there because reality is that they are and there is nothing u can do about it except to try and find another source.
AS for using BT, u either have to log onto a server and then download the torrent, therefor your IP is logged and what file you have downloaded is in your ISPs' P2P cache, which then anyone authorised can get your IP, what file you downloaded then work from there. Not only that you can just as easily get the persons ip that is either seeding or leeching that file you want ... IS THAT OPEN OR NOT FOR PROSECUTION!!!!!!!!

1. If your isp is sending notices for bt, its bc bt is soo efficient at what it is intended to do, tranfer information.Rock wrote: The thing i dont like about BT is, ISP's sending you notices to stop using their bandwidth and also trying to find a GOOD program that WORKS.

2. I personally have had no problems with fakes or non working files on bt, but the truth is, ALL p2p programs have to deal with fakes and damaged files. I have dl a few fakes off WinMX though.
3. Logging onto a server and downloading a torrent is not illegal. A torrent has nothing copyrighted in it, no ownership. The fact that you log onto a server to dl a torrent is a non factor.
4. Getting IPs, lol, Anything you make a TCP connection your ip is available. So when you download or upload a mp3 on WinMX, remember the person on the other end can see your IP. You beloved WinMX is no more safe than BT.
Having said all this, I realize that WinMX serves a valuable purpose for small individual mp3s and other files of inconsequential size. However for large files, BT is without parallel.

Oh, And you cant do that with bit torrent Rat ?
I would have thought it was more easy to map out BT users as there are so many online at a time to provide the torrent, that getting details from them is childs play and taking down one WinMx user maybe doesnt rate as high as taking down a whole torrent load
Enjoy the desist orders if you like that sort of thing..

I use WinMX now more than I ever did before, but not as a download tool, but as a tool to get information out to others. I think it's great because so many people are getting files. That is also part of what I don't like about it. But all in all the program itself is unmatched by any of its kind. Yes their are others BT & IRC. But in terms of Napsterish it is #1.
The Monthly world, daily struggle!
Yes i know that to get an IP from WinMX is simple. And you say that there is nothing illegal about a torrent? Well my friend, if the torrent you are downloading is copyrighted by someone then it is illegal, even to have that programs name on it!!!
So no matter what, it is illegal, on BT or any other
program,eg. Winmx, Limewire, Kazza, etc.
Also when logging onto a server you download thru the server ( for The torrent and therefor have to be still logged onto the server for you to download that torrent.

This makes no sense to me or maybe I am missing what you are saying. So if I type Microsoft Windows XP SP2.ISO this post is now copyrighted by Microsoft? Anywho. Desist letters are fun to get. I have gotten 4 of them but only while I was running a tracker for this very forum. I am constantly downloading and uploading with BT and never received a DMCA complaint letter for doing that. Now, running a tracker and providing a service, then they will get you. And I plan on starting one up here soon. So I am sure I will get yet another DMCA complaint.the torrent you are downloading is copyrighted by someone then it is illegal, even to have that programs name on it

1. a torrent in itself is not illegal, and I dare you to even try to prove otherwise.Rock wrote: Well my friend, if the torrent you are downloading is copyrighted by someone then it is illegal, even to have that programs name on it!!!................................

2. You do NOT download THROUGH a server on bittorrent. A tracker is used to maintain current status of many users dl/ul pieces available etc. However you do not download anything other than the tracker and tracker updates of info from the server. The actual files is transferred via tcp connection directly from the individual peers.
3. Actually you can sever ties to a server b4 completion. As long as current seeds etc do not go away, it will not stop the progress of the files. It will simply not allow new seeds/peers to connect.
Just wanted to note, this is the 44th reply in this thread
