5 years ago today, I set up CMX :)

It's been a wonderful journey, and I look forward to seeing what the next 5 years have in store for us. It is a testament to the success of the site and the dedication of all of the wonderful members of CMX that for the 5th year running we were able to reach over 10,000 posts for the year - since January 11, 2004 CricketMX has averaged a remarkable 50.17 posts per day.

For something a bit different, I was hoping everyone could post one of the memories of their time at CMX that stands out in their minds :)

I will start:

Before CMX, there was the Winmxcommunity - which a lot of the long time members were a part of. I posted an article about Winmxcommunity just a few minutes ago, which is a blast from the past if you would like to read it: http://www.cricketmx.com/articles/read/ ... of-an-era/

If I had never registered at Winmxcommunity, I would never have had the inspiration to create CMX. I had one particular conversation with the owner of Winmxcommunity - Vulpes - which probably convinced me to go ahead and start a forum. Bear in mind, I have used 3 new computers since this conversation took place in late 2003, so it is remarkable that I still have it to post here today!

Here it is... (I knew absolutely nothing about forums at this time  )

<battye> finally got in!
<battye> anyone around here?
<Vulpes> heh
<Vulpes> sup
<battye> hey vulpes
<battye> still there?
<Vulpes> ive been putting some mods on the forums.
<battye> a notice said remove install file or something
<Vulpes> yeah thats fixed
<battye> i forget, its gone now though
<Vulpes> i just upgraded to latest version
<battye> of php?
<Vulpes> of the board
<battye> lol, it says welcome battye
<battye> is it hard to make a forum?
<Vulpes> nah
<Vulpes> it takes some time
<battye> ive heard you need something called sql, do you know what that is?
<Vulpes> if you write it from scrach, its very hard
<Vulpes> but nobody ever does that
<Vulpes> yeah
<Vulpes> sql server
<Vulpes> database
<battye> to keep memory of all posts? or something totally different lol
<battye> its a great forum u have vulpes
<Vulpes> yeah thats where everything is stored
<Vulpes> from posts to users to private messages
<battye> so the forum wouldnt run without it?
<Vulpes> no wawy
<Vulpes> way
<Vulpes> sql server is like a storage building
<Vulpes> while the forum you see is a store where you browse products
<battye> could you use other databases like ms access? or does it have to
run on sql?
<Vulpes> i think you cant
<battye> you cant? or did u accidentally hit t lol
<battye> ive been thinking of making a forum, so im just curious as to
what u need
<Vulpes> you can
<battye> ok
<battye> i dl that php thing off their website, the only thing that my
comp. understood were the pictures lol, then i read that u need an sql,
now i no what an sql is
<Vulpes> u installed it on windows?
<battye> php
<battye> the zip off their site, i dont have sql, only found out what it
did when u told me a few minutes ago
<battye> is sql free? or do u dl it somewhere?
<Vulpes>www.mysql.com
<Vulpes> its free
<battye> really, great!
<battye> so, if i dl this, i should be able to make my own forum?
<battye> to create it, do i need to be on the net, or can u do it all
offline, then publish it?
<Vulpes> you will also need a http server
<Vulpes> such as apache
<battye> i need a server?
<Vulpes> yes
<battye> i didnt no that lol
<battye> why do i need a server? to host it when publishing?
<Vulpes> to access it too
<battye> to edit it?
<battye> sorry, i dont no too much about servers besides what they are lol
<Vulpes> to do anything
<battye> oh, the part about needing a server kinda turned me off, thanks
for all the help though
<battye> cya later
<Vulpes> bye

Happy 5th anniversary everyone!! :D :D :D :) =D> =D>

I haven 't been with CMX that long so it's not fair to say that I have a memorable moment. What am I saying?! of course there is! Finding CMX in the first place after doing a web search for "phpBB2 entertainment MODs" and CMX came up (UQM). Glad it did!

Happy 5th anniverary CMX and thank you battye for giving us all a great friendly, helpful and entertaining forum. :) :)

Here's to another 5 years and many more!

(EDIT: Where's me smilies?!)

Battye, congratulations to you on your achievement. You have created an amazing forum.
I would really like to add some memorable moments...I will get onto it and add them,
after I take the trip down memory lane. Something I know I am going to really enjoy :)

So, to you Battye and all the the CMX members who have made this the special place it is...thank you all.

Happy anniversary CricketMX and Battye it has been a great five years here on this forum.
When I read the home page I just about went into tears with all the great memory's that came flooding back to me. There is just so, so many how would anyone even begin to start?

I think first and foremost would have to be the comradery I felt in the members of the WinMX community members and how I wanted so much to be apart of that, and eventually did by becoming a member of the infamous group. I do miss all of them and try to keep in touch with as many as I can.

In saying that I also feel that has been the case here at CMX. All the people that has come here has always been wonderful people. The tone set way back then by the Community has always followed this forum I thank you Battye for just that. For the last 5 yrs. I have considered CMX to be my home base forum. A person couldn't ask for a greater bunch of people than those that has crossed the path of CricketMX.
To all CricketMX members salute.

I will take time to find old post to add in this topic 10,000 is a lot to go through
the memory's that came to mind while reading the home page: The Nushi bot Battye kept bringing into the room that was constantly being banned. Battye inviting me to look at his forum and my reply "whats a forum?".

Boozy and Red who is the posting king? Caz what team do you root for anyway? Moon wheres the Bacon? Is it Groundhog day yet?. Me_here I can see you. The infamous Poohbear thread. Any one for Doubles? Nes have you won yet? "wot the hek wus tha U rote?" One night with Quick on a posting frenzy "gotta have 500." StorbinC are you really NiceGuy? laying in luxury in the chocolate spa. Yuck. Whats in your pants Garm?

And many, many more

That was a very nice piece you wrote Tune, I agree with everything you wrote. We were all part of something very special, and the comradery and spirit still lives on. Sorry I didn't reply to that earlier, I had read it and was meaning to.

Thanks for posting the archived links Layzie, it's crazy to see how the site has evolved. Unfortunately the archive bot doesn't like the Feb 7 version though! I can't believe either how quickly the 5 years have passed. It all feels like only yesterday.

it really does say a bit when you can say ive had a website for 5 years, it hasn't been that long since the internet was introduced, that and being able to connect and communicate with people around the world is an acomplishment, well done, it's really amazing how big of a sucess your site has had, and continuing to do so.

I would have to say my fondest memory of MXCommunity would have to be the first month or so I was on there.... Meeting Me_Here, Battye, Freez, and Others such as Moon and Red

As moon posted I had found people that were happy and liked to have a good time. I can remember how friendly everyone was and how they were always willing to help to the community get stronger.

Some great times and great memories...

One other thing I can sort of remember but I do not know exactly who it was, but I angered of the ladies (I can only remember calling her mom sometimes), because she treated me like a son. But anyways I can remember how scared I was that I was going to get banned because of what I said to her and that she was mad at me for a long time... That is how much this meant to me at the time... To be a part of something greater than myself....

Adi!! You're back Image

I don't remember anyone ever being mad at our Adi.
Mom? Our Tardis & Doctor Who fan "Mother"?
But, Mother is too nice to ever be mad at anyone :)

Our other "Mum" from the other side of the Atlantic is also just too nice to be cross with anyone :)

So, welcome home Fern-Man we missed you
