- Y2K bug: the most anti-climatic event in the history of the world wide web
- GMail: I think gmail has changed the way we use webmail, not least the fact that they began the trend of multi GB mailboxes

Sometimes when you cry... no one sees your tears.
Sometimes when you are worried... no one sees your pain.
Sometimes when you are happy... no one sees your smile.
But fart just one damn time ...

I remember Freez aka "Grammar Man" introducing me to Wikipedia, I think it was to do with "Cow Tipping"
I have never looked back. I use Wikipedia all the time (knowing full well that there can be short-comings).
So, when in doubt use another source to verify the information.
The word "Wiki" is now a part of everyday internet use.
Wiki = information/knowledge/facts

I had a different thought on this. But thought I had just better leave this as a blank post.

The internet went public in 1993.
Yahoo started around 1996
Google around 1997
Microsoft Windows 95 made a very big impact on the internet making access to the internet easier and because of Windows 95.
Although recently, the big changes have been the capabilities, enough bandwidth to stream high quality video is now possible. Information at an instance.

I agree with the importance of archive.org.
I think some more of the big steps in internet history include:
Linux of course (The internet does run on Linux)
Skype and other VoIP tech
and the most important of all:
Online movie listings
