The Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) fired a warning to corporates that their networks will be checked for illegal software being distributed via file sharing.

The industry organisation will search corporate networks, using its own tracker software, for illegally downloaded software emanating from file sharing activity, which is currently going unnoticed.

FAST’s Operation Tracker 2 follows a similar initiative that targeted individuals last month. The corporate focus could prove costly for businesses that have failed to control file sharing activities and might lead to legal action.

John Lovelock, director general at FAST, said the association planned to use its tracking software to unearth illegally downloaded versions of its clients’ software on corporate networks.

“We will infiltrate peer-to-peer networks and search them for software from our members,â€
