I was done with winmx months ago and heard it went under. Since I lost interest and have been busy, I haven't been checking out this or any other winmx forum.

But tonight I was screwing around and took a look at a few sites. It seems winmx's site is up but only for ad money. Then, I saw something about a patch.

Since I have little time check out these things, will someone break it down? Is winmx up and "underground," or are people just chatting in winmx rooms...As far as winmx goes, I have been under a rock for months. So, throw me some updates....(and remember, i'm retarded...no big words pls.) :lol:

WinMX works just like it used to. You have to patch it to connect to the main servers.
Here's the short version. The long version can seem kind of petty.

When WinMX was shut down, it was done by killing the peer cache servers. These were the one's run by Frontcode that kept track of everybody else that was connected so that you know who was on the network to connect to.

Shortly after this, somebody made public that they had a peer cache server running. Now, there are a few servers running.

To connect to one of these 'underground' servers, you need to patch your system. Right now there are two patches you can use to tell your computer where the new servers are.

You can get the Pie Patch from Vladd. It overwrites your Windows host file. It's all in plain text, so you can read through what you're doing easily.

There's also a dll patch that only affects WinMX. It's written by KM.

You must have such a hard way to go in the real world stared at a lot.
I know I would probably stare at someone pastie white with one huge forearm compared to there other. Seems to me a bad way to get noticed. No wonder one would have to settle with internet porn :P
