Technology was foremost in the world's collective "search" conscious in 2007, with a hot gizmo called the iPhone ringing up the most Google inquiries for the year.

Apple's big technology release was the fastest-rising search term on Google, both in the U.S. and globally. Each year, the Internet search giant compiles a list, called Google Zeitgeist, of the breaking news, big events and must-have gadgets that captivated the world. In the U.S., Webkinz — the stuffed animals that have online personas — were the second-fastest-rising search term, with the late model Anna Nicole Smith rounding out the top 10.

In the realm of Hollywood, starlets Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan had the largest volume of searches. And on screen, the TV show Heroes and the movie Transformers garnered the most searches

No surprises that iPhone takes the top spot. Good to see that 2007 cricket World Cup took 4th spot in the top news searches! I'm pretty shocked that Mike Huckabee didn't make the top 10 searches for candidates, and perhaps a bit surprised that 30 Rock didn't make it into the TV shows list.
