Blogging that has got a whole lot smaller!!
Text based, social network messaging - with permalinks.
Here are three examples. There are many, many, more out there.

Pownce
Founded - July 2007

What is a permalink?
"A permalink is a URL that points to a specific blogging entry even after the entry has passed from the front page into the blog archives. Because a permalink remains unchanged indefinitely, its use avoids link rot."

Twitter's Tweet Smell Of Success
Michelle McGiboney, Nielsen Online
March 18th, 2009
twitter.com continues to grow in popularity and importance in both the consumer and corporate worlds. No longer just a platform for friends to stay connected in real time, it has evolved into an important component of brand marketing. Unique visitors to Twitter increased 1,382 percent year-over-year, from 475,000 unique visitors in February 2008 to 7 million in February 2009, making it the fastest growing site in the Member Communities category for the month. Zimbio and Facebook followed, growing 240 percent and 228 percent, respectively.

How Dell Is Using Twitter To Increase Sales
February 5, 2009
Interesting post on techcrunch about how Dell is offering exclusive discounts to its Twitter followers.
Dell has found a way to use Twitter to generate sales. In December InternetNews reported that Dell has produced $1 million in revenue over the past year and a half through sale alerts via Twitter. People who sign up to follow Dell on Twitter receive messages when discounted products are available the company’s Home Outlet Store. They can click over to purchase the product or forward the information to others.

Sometimes when you are worried... no one sees your pain.
Sometimes when you are happy... no one sees your smile.

Great works of literature are being shortened into 140-character "tweets",
in the latest diversion to grow out of the popular Twitter website.

Some examples:

Ulysses

jamesjoyce: Man walks around Dublin. We follow every minute detail of his day. He’s probably overtweeting.

Great Expectations

charlesdickens: Orphan given £££ by secret follower. He thinks it’s @misshavisham but it turns out to be @magwitch

The Catcher in the Rye

jdsalinger: Rich kid thinks everyone is fake except for his little sister. Has breakdown. @markchapman is now following @johnlennon

Pride and Prejudice

janeaustin: Woman meets man called Darcy who seems horrible. He turns out to be nice really. They get together.

Bridget Jones’s Diary

helenfielding: RT @janeaustin Woman meets man called Darcy who seems horrible. He turns out to be nice really. They get together.

Everybody loves Sockington. Everybody is following Sockington on Twitter

Image
As the story goes, Socks the cat (full name: Sockington) was first spotted next to a T stop outside of Boston, where he was meowing and hoping someone or something would feed him. When the person came back from work later in the day, Socks was still waiting by the entrance, still meowing. He was scooped up and passed through a couple homes before he was ultimately brought to Waltham, where he now lives a life of luxury, tuna and cat toys while occasionally destroying things precious to everyone else but himself.
Socks likes short runs in the hallway, inventing new cat beds, and going absolutely all-points-bulletin insane at the slightest provocation or based on internal signals that may or may not be coming from Mars. He also has the attention span of a weathervane. With the advent of the short-attention-span poster site twitter.com, Socks has finally found the home for his skittering, random thoughts. What started out as a simple diary of the life of a cat has expanded to a veritable Army Of Socks (Socks Army to their friends) who now follow Socks by the thousands.
