From software to hardware, breakthough to disaster, it all belongs here!

ATI's answer to Nvidia's SLI

Graphics chip badger, ATI is preparing to show off its new Multi VPU marchitecture.

The graphics chip badger realised that it does not need a new fastest graphic card, as it has that already - in the form of the X850XT PE. This card is the fastest single graphics card in most cases, with Nvidia's 6800 Ultra as its closest competitor.

While the X850XT PE is very fast, ATI is still losing in some benchmarks big time against two 6800 Ultra cards in SLI mode, so that is exactly what ATI is after now.

ATI plans to reveal its Multi VPU marchitecture - its answer to SLI - sometime prior to, or at, the Computex gadget fest in Taiwan, so let's say around early June time.

We know that ATI will have quite a few design wins prepped up. And we learned that in order to make it work you will need a motherboard based on either RD400 or RD480 chipsets; depending whether you want to use Socket 939 Athlons or Pentium 4 775s.

Tier-one motherboard vendors are already beavering away on ATI Multi VPU designs and they will be ready when ATI decides to launch this marchitectural wizardry.
