We have released 1.8.6.1, this contains a few minor as well as two major bug fixes as such it is, recommended that you update ASAP.

Also, I have a request for feedback from users.

WCS is up to date now. Mind has updated, cleaned up the code, which was a mess which KM stated himself when he posted it. All the bugs, exploits have been fixed so now what I need is feedback from users like .. Should we continue WCS or leave it. If we continued what sort of features would you like added. We are not willing to turn it into FXS our goal is to keep it as WCS, I think that's what KM would've wanted. Were open to new features that are wanted that other servers offer though or original features.Negative feedback is also welcome. If theres something you don't like about it I'd like to know.

Where we go from here is up to the users so please any feedback will be helpful.

Please post feedback in the WCS Help section or come to me.

Thanks and have a Great Day.

Changes since 1.8.6

* Fixed reverse DNS lookups
* Fixed DNSServer/DNSServer2 not being read from the config
* Fixed case-sensitivity of custom commands
* Fixed reading invalid access levels from the config
* Fixed bug in /setaccess
* Fixed overflow in /dumpcore
* Fixed bug in /motd where variables were not replaced with their corresponding values
* Fixed 0x9905 message redundancy when fancy entry is enabled
* Fixed blank replaces causing undefined behavior
* Changed RenameMessage= to allow color codes
* Changed default cache server to caches.winmxworld.net
* Added ! access
* Added AutoAdmin=

AutoAdmin= is used to automatically grant full access (*@!) when joining using a loopback hash,
this saves the host time by not having to login,
to enable set to 1, to disable set to 0 which is default.
(only works when you join using a loopback hash, i.e 0100007F1A2B)

! access is used to protect from kicks, bans, kickbans, exiles, aswell as redirects.

NOTE: On Windows however, you still have the ability to perform these commands on users from the server window...everything else should beself-explanatory (I hope)

Quote from Raven.
A bug was reported related to login announcements that use commands. i.e Password=@*!=password=#c2#<$NAME$#c2#> #c7#$TEXT$=/opmsg $NAME$ has logged in as admin.

Since it only affects the Windows version and we had changed nothing at all related to that feature, we're assuming it may be related to moving from LCC to GCC.

Stick with 1.86 or remove those from config and we'll have a fix posted soon. If anyone is having any issues with 1.8.6.1, please make a post or pop by and let me know.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Raven & mind released a new version of WCS today.
A small update has been released .. 1.8.6.3

I know it's not much but it's all I can offer for this beta version right now.

I updated the config but will update the documentation when I have more time.

Enjoy!!

Changes since 1.8.6.2

- Fixed how memory was allocated for Blocked Word/Name
- Fixed a potential security risk regarding ! access
- Added ShowTopicTag=0/1
- Added ? access
- Added /showsecmsgs

ShowTopicTag=0/1 is used to prefix the channel topic with [WCS]
This is ONLY visible from the channel list and does not modify the topic.
Note: This functionality is disabled by default.

? access is used to specify which users the server will forward security messages to,
such as banned join attempts, nickname hijack attempts, etc.

/showsecmsgs will toggle whether or not you will see security messages,
if you've been granted ? access, this is easier then having to remove the level,
as it leaves your access intact.
Thanks for the update Raven & Mind. :D

Raven released WCS 1.8.7 today on her forum.
We have released WCS v1.8.7. WCS Windows users are recommended to update right away as this release contains an important bug fix concerning the Windows gui. This release ended up being mostly bug fixes but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I want to take this opportunity to let everyone know that although Mind is standing by to fix any issues that may arise, he has his own projects to finish so I'm putting this project on the back burner (for now). I'm pleased with work he's done on WCS which was fix the issues (mostly memory allocation) which was the goal of this project all along. So, special thanks to Mind and all the users that supported this project.

Have A Great Day and Don't Forget to Update !!

Release date: Sept. 17 2009
We've released a small WCS update ( v1.8.8 ). Mind discovered another serious vulnerability in the WCS code so we thought we should post an update asap. Not only does this release fix the exploit it also fixes 2 very minor bugs with features we added, rename and /logout and naturally he added a few new features to make this release worth while.
Changelog & notes
Changes since 1.8.7

* Fixed potential privilege escalation vulnerability
* Fixed variable replacement in rename message
* Changed /logout to reset callers text format to default
* Removed AutoAdmin= (spooky..)
* Added ability to use #\n# in FancyEntry
* Added support for ES/WPCC protocol extention "User Is Typing"
* Added AllowIfTyping=0/1 (toggle aforementioned addition on/off)
* Added new variables for use in MOTD/FancyEntry
($CURUSERS$, $TOTALUSERS$, $TIME$, $DATE$, $LONGTIME$, $LONGDATE$)

Notes:

The WPCC extension feature is located in WPCC color settings
(when typing).This lights up your username on the userlist in
your chosen color when your typing with the WPCC client.
