WinPy alpha v0.1 is a new open source client to connect to the WinMX Peer Network coded in Python by String.
Caution use at your own risk. it's a early test alpha version that's buggy & some options aren't available yet.if you want to test it out it allows you to connect as a secondary connection, search for files, transfer files, add a library & chat in chat rooms.
To get it to work you need to install Python 2.5 or later. You can get Python 2.5.2 here.
If you want to stop the Console from loading whenever you start WinPy change the .py extension to .pyw.
After you extracted WinPy from the .zip archive to where ever you extracted it to on you PC and installed Python, open the WinPy folder click WinPy.py or.pyw (if you changed the extension) to start WinPy.
Thanks & congrats to String for creating WinPy.

Thanks for posting this topic P2P. I will be trying out the program and writing an article about it later this week

Your welcome Mate!!
There has been talk of creating an open source WinMX client since before FrontCode even closed down the servers. I'm so glad to see that it's finally happened. I think Python is an interesting choice to code it in. The software on the OLPC is pretty much Python based. It's an easy language to get into. I'm looking forward to digging through the code a bit.
